Winamp sometimes skips for a sec.

Im running windows ME OEM and winamp sometimes skips for a sec when things happen on my comp like a user on ICQ comes online etc... I think the solution to this prob is turn Wave Mapper off and use your soundcard instead... Odd. can anyone tell me why this works?

I have the same problem.I have turned the wave mapper off.But it still does not help.Any other ideas? I am running windows 98 and using version 2.64 of Winamp.
