If you continue to experience there problems,

i have tried installing MANY MANY MANY versions of winamp but i get that same error when its almost done installing (another one of winME hundreds of thousands of bugs!?).

Wow - how did you get Win ME final so quickly? And are you sure it's the final final? Windows 2000 had a final floating around in warez, but it turned out to be a timed bomb version that cease to work after 120 days.

I am also running Windows ME Final, and I had no problems installing WinAmp, but whenever I attempt to launch it, the busy mouse cursor appears for a few seconds, and then it goes away, and then nothing happens. If I press CTRL-ALT-DEL and bring up the task list, WinAmp is listed there and I terminate it, and it closes.

WinAmp just *WILL NOT WORK* with the Millennium Edition of Windows.

Nullsoft - please please fix this.. Better to get this fixed before Windows ME is properly out on the market rather than after.

Incedentally, Sonique works like a charm under ME. I installed it to see whether it would work, even though I don't use it.. and it worked. Besides using Sonique or the dreaded Windows Media Player, I really have no other option for my MP3s!

Surely Nullsoft, being a software developer is on Microsoft's development program, and recieves beta copies of their Operating Systems to test their software prior to release? Guys, guys guys! Please fix this bug!

Very weird.

I was sitting here, browsing the WinAmp website, and installing Microsoft Office 2000 in the background (as I only installed Windows ME today).

As Office's install reached is conclusion, just before it prompted me to restart my system, WinAmp launched itself, and is working.

A connection? A strange one.

Do I restart my computer and risk WinAmp not launching again?

This is indeed very, very peculiar.

Well, I just closed and reloaded WinAmp, and it works.

I'm going to restart, go to bed, and hope that WinAmp works in the morning.

I have Win Me/Win2k final installed on my PENTIUM III/128 RAM. [Dual O/S]
The only strange behaviour on winAmp 2.6x installation on both o/s, is their strange stop! ...after the "STOP BUGGING ME" period. I've found that WinAmp 2.6x try to download some files (plugin, maybe) directly from the net. ...and maybe in attempt to check for upgrade player (I use firewall, that's how I know it). I dunno. ...but if you give it some time....err...lotsa time.......finally you will see that splash screen. And your lovely (and corupted by ALIEN?) player, will run just like usual. ...and by the way, if I cut that strange stop with "END TASK", their'll be no AVS plugin, etc... and that's funny! I mean F.U.N.N.Y ! Because I allways choose to have the FULL DOWNLOAD. ...then why it needs to download "something" I don't even know??

*If you ever use Windowblinds, and download an additional skins from the net, within the software....that's it! ...just like that! It stop, sit in your memory silently, and do somethin' secretly.

I've had ME for a while now; Winamp *loads*, however, if you glance at http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/Forum4/HTML/000474.html you'll see that theres a major either CPU utilization or something goin on thats not right. CD's and Mp3's both skip anytime you open a new application or even switch windows, even if you onky have like 3 open. *shrug* Maybes its ME, maybes its WA. Anyone have a WA archive with older versions of winamp?
