I have been using winamp for a while and now the following error message displays when I try to play MP3's
"MMSYSTEM002 A device ID has been used that is out of range for your system" Does anyone know how to fix this problem? |

Let me guess, you have a PCI soundcard? It's probably your sound driver. Windows 95 and 98 (first edition anyway) have problems detecting PCI soundcards, so you might not even have a sound driver. I got that error message with my SB Live! before I installed drivers for it (stupid me)
Does sound work in other applications besides winamp? that's something to check before going any further. |

My sound card is built into the mother board. The problem is fixed now. I installed a video game on my computer that reinstalled Direct X on my computer and now Winamp works fine again. I am not positive but I think that it was something wrong with my Direct X drivers.

I installed the latest version of directx and it still gives the same exact error. But i also have an onboard sound card and i think it may be the generic(pos) drivers that come with the board.

Check your sound-codecs if they are all turned on.
Config. Screen > multimedia > Sound Codecs Put them all on and restart, problem should be solved |

This is not a bug !
The problem is with your soundcard. Fix : goto Winamp Prefs -> Output tab. Select "Nullsoft Wave Out" -> Configure Change output device from "Wave Mapper" to one that best describes your soundcard [by using the drop down menu]. eg. I have a SBAWE32 so I changed mine to "SB16 Wave Out". If you'd used the site search facility first, you'd have found over 80 references to "mmsystem002" complete with fix ! ------------------ ******* DJ - Egg ******* ^/^ `v |
