Stolen 'vette found 37 years later

full story

Quote:
A Corvette sports car stolen when it was brand new in New York 37 years ago has been recovered in California and will be returned to its rightful owner, authorities said.

The 1968 car, which vanished from Alan Poster’s garage in the borough of Queens on Jan. 22, 1969, was identified as stolen as it was being loaded on a container ship for Sweden last November, Department of Homeland Security spokesman Mike Fleming said.

...

The Corvette, which was originally painted blue with a matching interior, is now silver with a red interior. It is missing the gas tank, has a new engine and transmission and no longer runs, Fleming said.
I'm not sure I'd want it back...

Heh. A few months ago, somebody in Milwaukee had his car robbed. They found it 5 days later worth twice its original (pre-theft) value. Because all the mods were legally purchased, the guy was able to keep them along with the returned car.

Ah yes, a tribute to the stupid theives who steal a nice car and pimp it out.....Only to lose it...Almost as sad as the legit buyer who does the same.

A buddy of mine lost a corvette the same way. He paid $7K for a hot Stingray. It was hot from 10 years earlier.... In his case the DMV finally caught it.... the VIN didn't match the title. Made me always check when I buy a rig.

His daughter is going to have a pretty bad-ass car in high school...
