Tetris DS
Whoa, chack out these videos!
First of all, I think it's cool that Nintendo's doing this. I love Tetris, and the DS seems like an awesome system for Tetris. Check out "Touch" mode in particular. It's totally different from normal Tetris, but it still has a definate Tetris feel. I can't wait for this game. (note: if the videos don't play in firefox, try doing "save as.") ![]() Who is the milkman? What is the purpose of the goggles? |

I may buy a DS just to play this... Or maybe I'll just buy the game and Wait till I can afford to buy the DS to go with it... That's my usual way of Convinving myself to get a system...
Did that a few times... Red alert 2 took 2 years of sitting unopened to convince me to get a new computer... at the time I had a Pentium 100... those were the days... Playing Dos games without an Emulator...I also had 3 games a Memory card and a Controller before I bought a PS1... Which I used at My Best friends house... ![]() And I know this Thread has a couple months on it... but I'm still catching up on the forums...

I think I will get it! I'm gonna buy Tetris DS tomorrow... just to make sure I have it... then pick up a DS in a couple weeks... after I've settled My bills... Is $119 a Good price for a Nintendo DS? that's what My local Wal-Mart has it for... Also, They have Tetris DS for $29... I'm assuming that's fine... It's been a while since I read about the DS... so I have some more Questions... Will the DS play GBA games? What about GBC?

So, while you are busy holding your mouse in your right, or left, hand , pretending you are using a touch screen, I can't help but wonder what your other one spare hand will be doing?, going for the emulated shoulder buttons, emulated dpad or emulated xyab buttons or touching your penis to remind yourself how clever you are... Perhaps you can hold your mouse in one hand and other control device, joystick or keyboard in your other hand, perhaps you'll look a tool trying. Perhaps you could run the emulator on a laptop instead of a big clunky desktop, that might work, you could even pretend it's a big old ds and that the touchpad is an emulated screen, you'll still look like an ass trying to control it all, unless you plan on growing another arm or something. But hey, if you think that's a great way to play games, then be my guest, personally I'll stick to my ultra portable, slip it in my back pocket, play it sat on the toilet , easy to control DS. |

DPad - WSAD Touch Screen - Mouse & Middle mouse L - Left mouse button R - Right mouse button A/B - ctrl,z,x,c,whatever keyboard button you want or use the spacebar for touch screen press, or space and ctrl for l/r... there are a number of ways. Sure a pc isnt a handheld device but the whole reason Im not going to buy a DS is because i never need the portability http://PAK-9.deviantart.com ...innit |

I still say you'd need a minimum of a third hand to comfortably replicate the DS layout and be able to use it.
It's designed for what it is and not to be emulated onto PC's, you could reverse the arguement and say that keyboard based devices don't emulate easily over onto GBA/DS hadware because of how the hardware is designed. On my GBA I used to and still do run Spectum games under ZXadvance, remember the spectrum was a keyboard based computer, while the games run great on the emu it's really difficult to play some of them comfortably, the design just hold you back, yes you can have a virtual keyboard, but that's hardly an ideal solution, yes you can button map the original keyboard controls for individual games, but what happens when you have a game that has more control buttons than the GBA has available? it'll work, but it'll work badly. Much in the same way an emulated dual screen device that has at least 3 different control methods, four if you include the voice microphone as well. The ds has been on the streets now for over a year, it isn't that much of a step up from the GBA which was emulated farily quickly after it's launch, yes there are some DS emus already, have you seen them? hahahaha. Portability is not always the need, I often play my DS within view of the pc, have to as it piggy backs my pc's wireless card for internet play, while portability is nice, I also like to be able to play the games I want now, how they are supposed to run and controled, not having to wait 2 years or more for someone to come up with an emu that might or might not let you play all games using some crackerjack control method , jesus, by the time they get one running even 90% we'll have more than likely moved onto the 'super DS advanced Virtual gameboy revolution' or something. |

I know the law doesn't make a distinction, but while emulating obsolete systems and games is considered morally acceptible because the company no longer stands to profit from them, emulating current-gen systems is bad. While the first run of DS games was mediocre and unconvincing, games like Mario Kart DS and Tetris DS (the best Mario kart ever and the best Tetris ever, respectively) make the system well worth owning. Also, somewhat off-topic (or rather, back onto the real topic), the "Touch Mode" in Tetris DS is really awesome. I love how it takes the Tetris concept and makes it so... tangible. I love it. Push mode and Catch mode are crazy-fun too. ![]() Who is the milkman? What is the purpose of the goggles? |
