not understanding getting a server

hey, I'm on a college server. In all the documentation it says to use the shoutcase DNAS server, but what is this server? what do i put into my shoutcast source configuration.

If that can't be answered. Let's say i wanted to broadcast from my computer, my IP, what would i put in the configuration?

sorry, i'm extremely new to this and i'm probably just not understanding the documentation.

do you have superuser access / root or shell access to the College server ?

You need to install the shoutcast server applicaiton (sc_serv) on the server. You then can either use Winamp with the DSP plug-in to send MP3 output to the sc_serv, or you can install the sc_trans (trancoder) that will take mp3 files from the server hard drive and play then to the internet.

You can also put both the sc_serv and DSP on your PC if you are running windox, MacOsX or Linux and do the same thing.

Be aware that your College may block this type of traffic, or get pissed off if you used their bandwidth

If you have a direct connection to the internet, then other people like myself could listen in. If you have a firewall between you and the internet, or collect network things get more difficult if at all possible.

Good luck with this.

then create a folder on your personal computer

name it "shout"

download the dnas server for your OS ie. windows etc.

un-tarr or unzipp the dnas server into that shout folder

follow the instructions in the included text file.

To set the IP for the stream you must go to "start" then click "run" then type in "cmd" then when the dos window opens type: "ipconfig/all"

you will see your machines Private IP . Use that IP to SEND your stream to the dnas server that you installed in the "shout" folder.

Then go to a web page like "what is my IP" or whatever and find your public IP . Use the public IP with ort to give as an adress for others to listen example: http://publicIP:Portnumber
