I think so. You don't have to stick to the square shape that you do with winamp, and you can create some very odd and enthralling shapes for you skins.
However, making them is a different matter altogether.

Winamp Rules!

------------------
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

Yes, Skining Sonique & other players that allow to change the shapes are cool (K-jofol is my litle fav for that ).

BUT skining of them are also LOT more difficult and long... I love the Winamp skining (even if my works are not really beautifull, I love them ).

As far as capability .... yes.
Obviously, You can do more things with it
because of the manipulative interface.

As far as simplicity ... no.
It requires a lot more effort, knowledge,
and planning. Which can be good or bad
depending on how you look at it. Still,
ho matter how beautiful Sonique may be,
I will never get over the way it seperates
into too parts... Winamp is the more
streamlined player. And forcing people to
stick to that has subtle, hidden advantages.

Hopefully Winamp 3 (Can we just call it W3
from now on? ) will allow for fully
realized interfaces like sonique, as well
as backwards compatability and support for
the older skins.

I have a plugin called b0 50% completed.

This allows 100% skinning flexibility of the main window. Like a0 with graphics basically.
Skinning it is like skinning YerTV, but I don't know if it will ever see the light of day as winamp 3.0 is said to be doing just that. Making skinning more flexible.

Bruce is dead on with K-Jofol as the top "skinnable" program. Not in terms of the actual program, but in terms of the possibilities. Sonique is second because of the rigid menu system.
On the other hand, K-Jofol also has the most intricate, difficult system (a real headache to make one of those baby's...) And sonique isn't much better.
Winamp wins out in the ease of use department, but currently cannot match the flexibility or allow the creative shapes and designs that K- Jofol and Sonique use.

P.S. Actually, I just leveled K-Jofol down to Sonique because it has the rigid playlist window.
