I would be willing to review em...i'm not good at skinning..gave my hand a try at it but it never seemed to work....but i did study art and design for foour years in high school at a college level..so that means i have to know something about what looks good and what doesn't...

heh.. they should hire me. send me a couple more tshirts and some toys. i know what looks good. what doesn't. if it looks like any of my family=bad. else=good.

anyway, it would be cool if some of the people from the forums were the reviewers. there are some really smart people out there that are way more knowledgeable than any of the current reviewers. plus, most of us have been using winamp for ages now, and know what works and what doesn't.

So would you give the following skin a 5 star ? It's a "masterpiece"... But a masterpiece of shit when considered as a skin...

Skins should be both reviewed by a professional skinner and by the simple users... A skin doesnt have to be a master piece made by a proffesional grafix artist to become a hit amongst us...

That's why we get so many arguements that the reviewer is a total malaka and a half...

Personally, I hate all dark skins... Imagine having me trying to rate all those thousands of dark skins...

The people should decide what a skin deserves, not a reviewer... Who does he think he is, God ?

I make anime skins. And I do a good job (made by hand of course, takes a week of work). I also run a skins page, where skins are submitted. Check out my reviews on other skins there at:

I agree that these reviewers suck, but a public rating system is Not the solution...
look at other sites like skinz.org where people are only insulting other people in their reviews...we wouldn't want all that "backstabbing" would we?

As for Skin-makers doing reviews combined with a download counter, mmhm maybe that would work

Yes, I believe they should have a set of
skin reviewers- AND they should have
profiles on the site that show their likes,
dislikes, background, skins, etc. And keep
them varied as well- so they all dont like
bland metal creations!

That way, say if the creator of SpyAmp
said my skin was absolute rubbish, it would mean so much more than "JHF"

customize.org is a bit better with the public reviews (besides the Glen bug)... I think that public rating systems are cool, as long as they rate the skins. Not 'this skin sucks ass'.. reviews should review the skin, what works, what doesn't. people will be idiots, but you can atleast hope that there will be enough good people out there to overpower the bad ones.

I agree, but 7 out of 10 "reviews" on a public rating system will not be serious an would fit nicely in the category "your skin sucks...mine is way better!"

most of the people who post their reviews are those with low self asteem trying to put other people down so they can look better themselves, while many people who are sincerely interested in skinning are the ones who CREATE good skins instead of talking about someone else's.

You make a good point, AmpBurner. However, that problem could be solved by some strict moderators who cull the useless comments out and only leave in the comments that actually point out how a skin might be improved or what it's real weaknesses are. From what I have seen, Xerxes' critiques are a good example of the type of comments I would leave in. His posts leave you with the feeling that you are actually learning something useful from an accomplished skinner.
