OK, the FAQ item on ratings state the following:
5 Stars: Skins that you CAN'T live without. They are complete; Every window done, window shade, cursors, the works. Absolutely flawless in every single way and are works of art in the Michaelangelo sense. Five star skins are automatically added to the Best skins category. 4 Stars: Great runners up, but just didn't make the final cut for one reason or another. Almost perfect. Maybe missing a component or two. They show time and effort spent in creating a great skin, but it's just not worthy of being in the the Best skins category. 3 Stars: Average skins. These authors show potential, and with positive feedback could possibly go on to create great skins. 2 Stars: Sub-par skins. They probably just changed the buttons or slapped a pic on the main and eq windows. Most of the time, these are generated by an "easy skinner" program without any additional hand tweaking. They get some points for effort, but doesn't quite cut it. 1 Star: Failed skin. Same as a 0, but with a little something extra. Most of these are skins with the main window skinned and nothing else. A lot of times, a beginner will act too hastily and submit a skin before it is ready. 0 Stars: Not worth reviewing. Skins that obviously took less than 5 minutes to create. Anything that hurts us to look at will receive this unholy rating. My question is: Did the reviewers actually ever READ this??? My Calgary Flames skin was just posted on here and in spite of the fact that I skinned EVERYTHING including all the buttons and the AVS and it's all clearly visible and functional, all it got was two frickin' stars! The reviewer even accused me of doing nothing more than cutting and pasting and I'll have you know it took a whole lot more than that to come up with this. I spent weeks on this. I know it may not be a 5 star skin, but when you see all the shit that gets four stars in the sports category despite the fact that it's incomplete and you can't see the buttons, it makes you wonder... Anybody have any ideas on how to improve this skin, I'm open to suggestions... Anybody who knows what JHF is smoking, feel free to post as well! My skin is at http://www.winamp.com/customize/deta...ponentId=23067 Try comparing some four star sports skins and you'll see what I mean: http://www.winamp.com/customize/deta...ponentId=20833 http://www.winamp.com/customize/deta...ponentId=20581 http://www.winamp.com/customize/deta...ponentId=18964 http://www.winamp.com/customize/deta...ponentId=12380 http://www.winamp.com/customize/deta...ponentId=18964 http://www.winamp.com/customize/deta...ponentId=12380 Most of these are incomplete skinner.exe products with maybe a little bit of tweaking and all of them would be an absolute PAIN IN THE ASS to use. So why the hell do they get 4 stars when I only get two??? By those standards, either my skin should have gotten 5 stars or these other ones should have gotten 1 or 0. Should I make my buttons invisible and leave off the MB and AVS to improve my rating??? |

Bottom line is I agree with the Reviewer's score for your skin.
It's a fairly simple skin port. Changed colours etc, but it's very based on the winamp base skin. However I quite agree with your feelings on the other skins listed. They are skinner results. They deserve a big fat 0. I know 1001 winamp skins.com certainly wouldn't admit them to the site. Thing is the reviewers at Nullsoft are just interns and lackys, they know bugger all. Remember the winamp reviews are very subjective. Afraid we're stuck with it until winamp.com 3.0 at least. |

Every skin on this or any other site is very based on the WinAmp base skin. You can't move anything around. You will notice that alot of the highly "creative" skins are a pain in the butt to use because buttons are hidden or unreadable. Try manipulating the playlist in the very cool looking and oft ripped Mercury skin or using the volume and balance sliders in Makeshift and you'll see what I mean. Anything functional will be "based on the winAmp base skin" Other than that the FAQ reserves 2 stars for "Easy skinner" products and incomplete skins. Under those guidelines, FlamesAmp should be worth at least 3 stars.
