SHOUTcast DSP not communicating with sc_serv
I'm having trouble getting the SHOUTcast DSP (running in WinAmp 5.2 on a Windows XP Pro box) to communicate with the FreeBSD4 version of sc_serv running on our server.
The BSD server has a static IP and ports 8000 & 8001 are OPEN (I just ran a port scan from my XP box and they're definitely open). Oddly, Radio Toolbox's port scan reports this: 68.165.xxx.xxx:8000 is Closed (note: I've masked part of the IP for security purposes) Reason Given: Connection refused More about this error: This essentially means that the port is open to the internet but has no services associated with it. There is no firewall protection on this port. sc_serv is running (error-free) and waiting for connections: $ ./sc_serv Event log: <03/31/06@20:36:54> [SHOUTcast] DNAS/FreeBSD v1.9.5 (Jun 2 2005) starting up... <03/31/06@20:36:54> [main] pid: 11098 <03/31/06@20:36:54> [main] loaded config from sc_serv.conf <03/31/06@20:36:54> [main] initializing (usermax:8 portbase:8000)... <03/31/06@20:36:54> [main] No ban file found (sc_serv.ban) <03/31/06@20:36:54> [main] No rip file found (sc_serv.rip) <03/31/06@20:36:54> [main] opening source socket <03/31/06@20:36:54> [main] source thread starting <03/31/06@20:36:54> [main] opening client socket <03/31/06@20:36:54> [main] Client Stream thread [0] starting <03/31/06@20:36:54> [main] client main thread starting <03/31/06@20:36:54> [source] listening for connection on port 8001 <03/31/06@20:37:02> [sleeping] 0 listeners (0 unique) <03/31/06@21:23:02> [sleeping] 0 listeners (0 unique) However, as soon as I start the SHOUTcast DSP on the Windows XP box, the Status goes to "Receiving Authorization Response" and remains there. The SHOUTcast Server Monitor reports "no source". The problem is definitely related to the link between the sc_serv running on our BSD server and the SHOUTcast DSP running on our XP box, because everything worked perfectly (right out-of-the-box!) when I ran the Windows version of the server from the same XP box that I'm running the SHOUTcast DSP & WinAmp on. It's not a connection issue, because the BSD server is actively hosting a number of websites and other various functions and is running fine. I have read the sticky FAQs and searched through quite a number of old messages, but I haven't found anything that helped. ya you have a firewall blocking your connection between the XP box running winamp DSP and the shoutcast server on your BSD box. Oh which I run both XP and BSD and they work great with shoutcast if there isnt anything blocking your access.
What is the full IP address of the server running shoutcast so I can check it. If you or someone else all ready did a port scan and its shows 8000 closed THAT IS THE PROBLEM. It should not be closed, it should be in a opened state and if you perform netstat -an |grep 80, you should have 8000 and 8001 liste as LISTENING , not CLOSED_WAIT, FIN_SENT, OR FIN_ACK pm me with the details if you want to. Cheers. ~ DK ~ According to the ship's log we're down to our last 3000 vomit bags. It'll never be enough. ![]() search the forums! don't PM me on how-to, or ask me to setup you system. you do it so you learn. |

What you suggest certainly makes sense, but both ports are currently set to LISTEN (as per netstat -an) and the port scans (run from my XP box) report both ports as OPEN. So I'm not sure what's going on???
