in_cdda.dll: Sonic Engine benefits ?

I'm wondering why nobody asked this before:
What benefits do I get from "Use sonic engine when possible" compared to "Use digital audio extraction when possible"? Is there any difference (for me using XP)
Is 'sonic engine' better in any ways compared to ordinary 'digital audio extraction'?
What should I use ?

There shouldn't be any obvious differences. Maybe enabling the sonic engine might help you read some sectors of cds that show problems with aspi oder the NT Windows drivers. But it might also be the other way round. So just turn it on if you have problems reading (certain) CDs.

On my system (with a plextor drive), I can achieve about 30x ripping with sonic, but only about 18x using ASPI.

The Sonic engine has a lot of drive-dependent and media-dependent optimizations. On some drives and with some brands of blank CDs, it behaves a lot better than ASPI, but on others, it is the same (or sometimes worse).

I was referring to in_cdda.dll only...
Maybe I shouldn't have stated that only in the topic title

benski's reply does explain what you're asking for since for some setups it will be better to use the sonic engine for ripping/direct playback and for others it won't, hence the option for those who are having issues or want to see if it will have any effect for them

@ wieesiee - You are referring to the in_cdda.dll plugins config then ??

'Use DAE when possible' should always be set if you are on XP, and regardless of whether you use 'Sonic Engine' or not.

As explained above, try it with and without 'Sonic Engine', use whichever gives you the best results.
