getting my broadcast to open up in windows media player

hi ive been reading threads from this forum for the last 4 days, so dont tell me to read (i think i may have even read the same posts twice) i badly need help, what i want to do is make a way so that when i give my address out to people, the link automaticly opens up windows media player n streams from there. I do not have my on web host crap, my own website, nor do i want one. I want to do all the hosting myself. my broadcast plays fine with people with winamp or i tunes installed on my computer (my target audience is my friends) and since only one of my friends has i tunes, i only have one listener, no-one else i know has winamp. I need help to change my broadcast from opening into winamp to opening into windows media player. can anyone help. Please reply asap.

Moved from Winamp Tech to Shoutcast Tech Support.

You need to create a simple ASX playlist and link to that.

See the SHOUTcast FAQ sticky for info/details.
(Implementing your Station on your Site > Listen Links).

Note that this will only work if WMP is the default ASX player, which it will be if that's the only media player the listener uses. Otherwise there's no way to force a player to open for a specific filetype (even Winamp supports ASX, and can be made the default handler).

I guess the other option would be to embed Windows Media Player and your stream into some webpage, using the WMP ActiveX <object> and <embed> tags. You can also find info on how to do that via the same sticky FAQ thread.

and thats my problem with these people on this forum (You need to create a simple ASX playlist and link to that) you tell us what we have to do but you dont tell us how to do it. i believe what i am asking is a simple question, changing http://220.235.224.126:8000/listen.pls to http://220.235.224.126:8000/listen.m3u OR http://220.235.224.126:8000/listen.asx

im not embedding crap, i dont have a site, i dont want 1, and even if i did i dont know how to embed windows media player into a website. please help me (and by that i mean telling me how to do things) afta ive got this stuff worked out im finished, i dont have 2 screw around with it anymore, and enjoy it. im starting to think this isnt worth it

you need webspace to host an asx file to open windows media player & on this webspace you need to have asx enabled in the mime types.

maybe an easier approach to asking for help may be better as there are plenty of people around to help if you want to listen.

this link may help but if you dont want to listen to what we are saying then there is little we can do to assist.

Hey! If you click on the FAQ link in my post it tells you exactly how to create an ASX playlist. It even gives you an example :/

ive most like already done that, if it says anything along the lines of if you want to play in windows media player then put this code into notepad and save it as an .asx, then ive already done that. 4 times! im using freewebs.com as my webspace. if thats any use to anyone. excuse me for being nieve but i thaught setting up a radio station would take at the very most 2 hours. instead its taken me 4 mayb 5 days n ive pulled two all nitas.

i suspect freewebs do not allow asx files to run as they dont have a control panel that you enable the mime types.

so i also suspect you have done everything correct but your free webhost is letting you down..

kermit, stop bitching... give us the URL where you have the links for the asx files, and lets see if you have them correct or not??

search yahoo? why not search the forum, the sticky posts DO have links, and if you are not finding them, www.streamsolutions.co.uk , look and scripts, you can just save-as, then open these files and edit them yourself.

However if you have a web server on some freehost, they will not know how to treat an ASX file, unless you have access to override the mime.types using .htaccess and assign the asx file type to media
Quote:
# MIME.TYPES

audio/mpeg mp3
audio/x-mpegurl m3u
audio/x-ms-wma wma
audio/x-ms-wax wax
video/x-ms-asf asf
video/x-ms-asx asx
video/x-ms-wmv wmv
video/x-ms-wvx wvx
video/x-ms-wmx wmx
application/ogg ogm
application/ogg ogg
audio/x-pn-realaudio ram
audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin rpm
audio/x-pn-realaudio ra
audio/x-pn-realaudio rm
audio/x-scpls pls
#END

# SAMPLE ASX FILE, nothing fancy here
<ASX version = "3.0">
<Entry>
<REF HREF="http://radio-url-here:8000/" />
</Entry>
</ASX>
#END ASX FILE
Sometimes FREE is not worth it. if you want to attract dedicated listeners, get a real domain name on a real hosting provider that can support, perl, php, mysql, and shell access

Cheers.

get a real host, free webs, translates the asx file to text, and delivers the output to the broswer. and shit its slower than dialup and I am sitting on a T1 right now.

al you webpage shows is freewebs banners, and a link to home. no links to the asx file, but when I clicked on it, I got the text not a lauch of windows media player.

this is a WEB HOST problem , nothing to do with shoutcast server , you need to see if free webs can add that mime type for you or find a host that can.

and here is the link to a sticky post, and you would have found searching for ASX, or clicking on the post labled READ BEFORE POSTING

nope...

you need to buy some decent hosting and then you can do what you need for free..

or look for someone that can host it for you,,,

a friend maybe...
