Incompatibilities with Windows Media Player
Hey everyone, I have my stream going and everything, but I am having some trouble. My listeners that have itunes can tune in to the stream just fine using the .pls link. However, the ones that try to open the stream using windows media player all say that it doesn't work and that they need codecs. I obviously don't want to make all my listeners download new codecs, is there something more compatible with windows media player that will work? Like maybe .m3u? How would I set that up?
Second question: Is there some HTML code that I can use to embed a media player in a webpage that will work with most of the major browsers and play my stream? Just wondering. I saw a thread about this, but after trying out the code, it didn't work. Thanks in advance. |

hi, welcome.
your issue is right on the money, wmp and winamp dont get along, one option is to open URL in WMP and enter in your address without listen.pls and WMP will play it just fine. A better a nicer looking way is to have a web site with these links where the listener can choose what player to lister to your stream with. Some good examples of this, including html to make a embedded player can be found a one of my mates web sites . http://www.streamsolutions.co.uk, look at the EMBEDDED section, and the scripts section. You can right click on the scripts and SAVE as, then edit these file to match your stream. It works great, and I have it setup the same one on several sites I am invovled in. Good luck, Cheers ~ According to the ship's log we're down to our last 3000 vomit bags. It'll never be enough. ![]() search the forums! don't PM me on how-to, or ask me to setup you system. you do it so you learn. |

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at 72.36.161.165:8538.
Well, looks like you problem is that there is no server at the address and port you gave. | Brought to you by ^V ^C | The one... the original... no seriously! |

if you are streaming AAC+
the windows media player will NOT play your stream since wmp can't handle aac+ if people want to play an AAC+ stream with wmp they need to download the orban aac+ plugin www.orban.com open the link with this instead of http:// icyx://123.45.67.89:9999 (example!) |

And if the asx file still doesnt work (just get text), then you might have to add asx to your mime types list.
video/x-ms-asf asx << thats what I use and it seems to work |
