using winamp dsp with no sound card?

Hello all, new to shoutcast.
Seems I have this working pretty well. I have the following set up.
SERVER: runs the DNAS
Workstation: runs winamp with the DSP

Issue is, I would like to run the whole shebang from my server. I have loaded winamp and DSP on the server, but the server has no sound card (and no space for it. Its a 1U pizza box server). Everything looks like it will work, but when I hit "play" to play a file (even with the DSP turned off) I get the following when using the DirectSounds output drivers:

DirectSound output v2.44 error

Bad directSounds driver. Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration
Error code: 88780078

or when using the waveout output driver:

waveOut output v2.1 error
No sound devices found. Please buy a soundcard first (or install proper driversif you think that you have one)

Windows error message:
"A device ID has been used that is out of range for your system"

So. I can understand why with normal use of winamp it would be important to have a sound card. Otherwise having a player isn't much use. However in my case, I simply want it to broadcast mp3 files to my DNAS server. I don't need to hear it!

Can anyone tell me if this can be accomplished? I really don't want to have to have my desktop computer on all the time since I already leave the server on all the time.

change the outout plugin from direct sound to null out. NULL or nothing..

I used this all the time, works perfect.

If for some reason you removed out_null.dll from the plugins directory you can download it again from winamp.com search for nullout or NULL in the plugins page.

Thanks for this! You are right! Works perfectly. I downloaded it from the website. Not sure why I didnt have it before, perhaps because of the options I chose at install (very minimal)

thanks again! Now to learn about playlists.
