Winamp to winamp remote control
Hi, i am fully aware that there are several web-based "remote control" plugins for winamp.
What i want is the posibility to run Winamp on my server, and then open winamp on my laptop, or my stationary computer - And from that Winamp client, have the posibility to look at the playlist, and not the least use the sweet "Song filtering/search option" (J key i think is standard). Somehow this shouldnt be that hard to make as a plugin (All exept the song filtering/search popup thing maybe), but i havent seen this just yet. And i am also awere of programs like Terminal Services and VNC, but thaats not really an option that i would like to use

This is the feature I've been looking for too, for a long time.
I'd like to see a simple "Connect to" command that would allow me to control a remote Winamp over a LAN. It's the same concept incorporated in MMC, where you can have snap-ins that connect to a computer, either it's the local computer or a computer over the network. To give you a better understanding of the feature, I'll show you an example. 1. In Windows, run: services.msc. This opens the Wiundows Services manager. 2. In the left panel it says "Services (Local)". 3. Right-click that node and select "Connect to another computer". 4. Select the remote computer and you will be able to manage the services in the remote computer, in the same way you manage your local services. I'd love to see the same in Winamp. Cheers |

The difference between existing plug-ins and our idea is that they require the user to give up the Winamp interface. I don't want to give it up
![]() The plug-in that is closest to what I want is Cool remote sound server for Winamp , but it's not useful for me because it requires you to stream the files from the client. I want all my music in the server so I can control it from any client. |

Existing Remote control plugins are misnomers. What we want (yes, I've also been looking for this for a long time) is to simple send commands (thus the control ) to a winamp running in another computer in the lan (thus the remote ).
The effect is like using the client computer as a remote control where you send commands to the remote winamp. Yes, yes, I want it now! please somebody do this. |

as for now, I have a lan. two computers linked together, both with 5.1 surround sound. they sit so close, I can synchronize music by pressing the mouse to enter a command at the same time. this is from the same file source. one streaming and one onboard. so why cant we write this into code and apply its many new functions to everyday use? I wonder your motives.

Bringing this topic back from the dead: It's been two years. Has anyone found a good way to do this, or a good enough plugin? The problem with plugins is that anyone can submit one, so it's hard t sort through all the bad ones. I would really like to control a remote Winamp, without streaming, in a Winamp-like interface, or even better, in Winamp itself.
