StreamTranscoder alternatives

Hi, I was hoping that someone could help.

I have been looking at running several different bitrate streams. I already have a 128k one and use a streaming company to transcode it to 24k but I would rather do it myself from my server.

I have looked at StreamTranscoder and had a go at installing that but with no luck - mainly due to the lack of information available (or maybe I haven't looked hard enough) and I had a look on the oddsock.org forum but they look pretty unresponsive to other people that have posted for help.

Are there any alternatives to StreamTranscoder for Linux? Any help or ideas would be great.

Thanks....

PS:
It looks like the company that I use to re-encode the stream uses Winamp to do it. I used someone else previously and the useragent that connected from their IP was "Sh0utcast Server 1.9.4" (note with a zero)- Would that be a dodgy modified version of Shoutcast?
