Winamp 5.3 MP3 Lame Gapless playback issue

I did a clean install of winamp 5.3, and discovered that Lame MP3 gapless playback is no longer gapless... there is now a "click" in between songs that would otherwise be gapless. I unchecked all the options under "playback" section to see if "dithering" was causing it...

I used the same settings as I did in 5.24 (changing "buffer ahead" to 1600ms)

I went back to 5.24 and gapless playback works as it should... no more "click" between tracks. Any ideas? Has anyone else experienced this?

I see that the following was updated:
Improved: [in_mp3/in_mp4] itunes-compatible gapless playback

Did this change gapless playback for non itunes users?

It hasn't changed the way that LAME gapless playback works. One possibility is that iTunes might have written junk gapless info into the ID3v2 tag, which will override the LAME gapless info.

Gapless Playback

Winamp 5.3 - clean install (with NO 3rd-party plugins)
Windows XP sp2
Dell Inspiron XPS gen2
mobo: Dell OF8460, cpu: 2.0 GHz Pentium M, ram: 1024 MB

Video Card: Nvidia GForce Go 6800 Ultra (7.8.5.1)
Sound Card: Sigmatel CMajor (5.10.0.4255)
DirectX version: 9.0c

in_mp3.dll??
I also tried the updated version of in_mp3 that was posted to fix the 64bit internal precision / sound quality bug.

I originally posted in the tech forum, before I saw the bug post.

Do you have replaygain enabled? And do these tracks have replaygain information? If so, try changing the replaygain source to 'Album' and see if the glitch goes away.

@ hobbes79

Hmm, strange. Gapless playback works fine here, even with 500ms buffer-ahead.

Did you maybe have 'remove silence' enabled in 5.24 (out_ds > other tab)?

You shouldn't really need that setting enabled for true gapless lame encoded files, but it might be necessary for bad rips/encodes (eg. if you used some slightly iffy custom command line). What ripper was used? EAC, Cdex, Winamp, Lame.exe commandline, other?

Please check your Private Messages.
I'm requesting that you send me two files which are supposed to play gaplessly, and the PM contains an email address where you can send them (zipped, please).

To avoid any (further) confusion, I've split the crosspost (and my reply) from the Bug Reports sticky and merged them with this thread.

Ok, I've received your email and the two sample files. Thanks.

Sample Files

Hope you don't mind, but I'm quoting the contents of the email here, so Benski and others can see it.

Quote:
I split the files with mp3trim, and removed the editable tag info so the files are only about 10-20 sec clips... but all the file header info is intact... play 1 then 2... I tested it and they do play gaplessly on 5.24

they were ripped with EAC using recommended settings for lame (http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index....e=EAC_and_Lame)

I tried all default settings in 5.24... it will play lame files gaplessly...
clean installed 5.3 left all settings default/then tried changing buffer ahead to 1600ms...always has a "pop" sound between gapless tracks... no replay gain info in the tags and fading and remove silence are not used
The files play perfectly gapless for me in 5.3
with out_ds "buffer-ahead on track change" value set to the default 500ms.

I don't know what else to say, except that I can't reproduce the problem.
Anyone else?

[edit] hmm, Benski says he can detect a slight glitch... so we shall see [/edit]

Absolutely gapless here, no click or pop or whatever. Default settings from clean install, no additional plug ins or addons.

Yes it does!!

Swapped file and restarted Winamp and gapless playback was back to normal. Thanks!

What was it, if I may ask? I greatly appreciate everyone's help.
