Problems on University Internet

Hi,

I appreciate that you all probably hear alot of this every day, but i havent yet seen a case like mine. So any help would be greatly welcomed.

I am at University and therefore have no access to Router Details, which then poses the problem of 'Port Forwarding'.
I have completed all of the other steps towards setting up my own Station, however this is the step that has let me down.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, see below the Log File.

<11/08/06@12:15:12> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave error (nak)
<11/08/06@12:15:12> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (Cannot see your station/computer (IP: 212.219.220.225:8000) from the Internet, disable Internet Sharing/NAT/firewall/ISP cache (Connection timed out).)

All of the other steps have been completed APART FROM port forwarding.

Thanks in advance.

this error means yp cant see you because (as you said lol) your behind a router/firewall. you must change the port forwarding settings in the router/s to stream to the open net. otherwise your audience will be confined to your university internal network

You won't be able to host your own server if you can't forward ports. If you're within a university network, it is very unlikely you'll be able to do this without contacting the IT department - even then, you'd still be lucky if they are willing to do this for you.

You can stream, but you'll need the server located at an external location. I would suggest look at getting some stream hosting or get a friend to host the server for you.

just my 2 cents worth:

You may want to talk to IS admin at the University to make sure what your doing is in compliance with their TOS (terms of services), I know too many people that loose their internet access because they are trying to use a corporate or University network for their server.

Cheers

Good news all around eh?
