Setting up internet radio

Hey everyone, new here, but here it goes,

I read the article in the greatest hits section about setting up internet radio through winamp. Seen Here , i understand everything on the winamp and my pc side of it, i think. But what im really unsure of is the server part. I have the web hosting package seen on the main page of here, http://dot5hosting.com/ is there anyway i would be able to stream to my site and then have people either go to it and listen or stream from there? Sorry im really new when it comes to this hosting stuff but my computer knowledge is pretty good. Thanks

ryan

the chances are your webhost doesnt support shoutcast and you wont be able to use it, have a chat with them as its their server and they have the aswers.

check out http://www.radiotoolbox.com/hosts for a reviewed list of hosts.

if you want your station to be 24/7 check the CDS links below in my sig.

if its a dedicated server you can use sc_trans

http://www.shoutcast.com/downloads

our cds is not available for use other than using our own servers as we offer many different variations.

shoutcast / icecast / windows media / scheduled / live / on demand / AAC+ being released on monday.

So is http://www.streamsolutions.co.uk/ the same kinda site as http://www.mouse-mouse.co.uk/ ?

Or do you need to go to Streamsolutions to have 24/7 brodcastings?

"Those sites" You mean the one with the downloads for the SHOUTcast server and sc_trans. It would be quite impossible to set up a 24hr playlist as a stream if you have no software to stream it with.

you cannot host your content from a windows webserver unless winamp and shoutcast are running on it if its dedicated that i know of.

This is why we created our content delivery servers so you can upload it to us and it is streamed for you.

Hi there DJ_Mixza,

A Shoutcast server is like a FM transmitter - it sends out a signal for others to pick up. What you feed into it, it will rebroadcast or distribute.

Most broadcasters prefer to feed a live source or signal into their Shoutcast server. This is often referred to as live streaming.

Some broadcasters prefer not to do this, and pay for hosts to store a series of mp3s on their own servers. These mp3s are played out on your Shoutcast server in a playlist format.

It's really a matter for you what you would prefer to do.

If you have further queries - come back to us and we'll try to answer them as best as we can.
