Use Folder/File names instead of ID3?

i'm new to mp3, so pardon me if this is a totally stupid question

i did some reading, however, and it seems that when i import my mp3s into the Winamp Media Library, it's choosing how it names the albums/songs by the ID3 tag associated with each file.

which is great, except it sorts things all crazy, like creating 3 or more albums (each named slightly different) for one album, etc.

i'm assuming this is a common problem. can't i somehow set it so that it just uses actual Windows folder names for album titles and file names for song titles? or do i have to get an ID3 editor and edit all my mp3's?

i started editing my ID3 tags anyway, but still curious why this isn't possible on Winamp or other MP3 players? or is it?
