modern skin support - stability and performance

whenever i install winamp for a client i never install 'Modern Skin Support'.

i've recently become interested in some modern skins.

is winamp more likely to crash with modern skin support installed?

how much is performance degraded with modern skin support installed?

is there anything else i may want to know regarding modern skin support?
