Excellent sound with winamp, garbage with soundcard

Hello,
here is my issue, I want to be able to speak live while I am casting, but, while I have EXCELLENT audio when I am using winamp for my input in the Shoutcast source, when I switch to soundcard the audio completely sucks. It becomes tinny, and then when I click on the mic the audio starts to repeat (I know this because I have tested it while listening to my web page based player) How do I improve the quality of my playback and mic while using the souncard feature on the input tab? Any help would be appreciated

Get into your soundcard mixer (speaker icon in tray). Get into recording properties and lower the level.
