Winamp shutdown bug with Windows 2000

Downloaded and installed Winamp 5.3 over top of an old, old, I mean old-as-dirt old version (2.90 I believe it was) on my Win2k Pro (SP4) box. I click the X to close it, and it jsut wont shut down. It appears as though its gone (disappears from screen) but task manager shows otherwise. The agent isnt even enabled. I cannot spawn a new instance unless I ctrl+alt+delete -> end task on winamp.exe.

I uninstalled it entirely and performed a fresh install, same result.

i can't seem to reproduce this, even after downloading winamp again with xp

so you think it's the os? Windows 2000?

Could just be related to 2k, I have XP on my laptop and can't reproduce under XP. I dont think any of the 5.0 and 5.1's did it, dont even think 5.23 did it.

Does the issue persist if you disable ml_pmp.dll?

C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins
Move ml_pmp.dll of the plugins folder while Winamp is closed.

If that fixes, you could figure out which of its subplugins is causing the issue (pmp_ipod.dll, pmp_p4s.dll, pmp_usb.dll, pmp_njb.dll, pmp_activesync.dll), by disabling those one by one.

ml_pmp.dll is indeed the culprit. Down with ml_pmp!

Windows 2000 users need to just uninstall ml_pmp.dll (Preferences -> Plugins -> Media Library then I would imagine.

So if ml_pmp.dll is for portable media player compatibility, it breaks compatibility with non-portable media player OS?

Why is it hosing up Windows 2000?

that's not necessarily correct to tell people to do since i run win2k and have ml_pmp+pmp_usb present without any closing issues. as siebe83 mentioned in his post, you need to have a look at still keeping ml_pmp present (assuming you even need the feature) but to try and disable the pmp_* plugins (so that it can be tracked down as to which is the offending plugin)
