Gametap poll

I just noticed there are GameTap ads above the forum (sometimes). I like the GameTap ads more than the "What's your credit score?" and "Spank the Monkey!" ads, anyway. I subscribed to GT for the Sam & Max games (which are pretty awesome, if somewhat simple, so far) and also for Myst Online (which is just starting up, so I don't really have an opinion of it yet).
But I thought I'd make an arbitrary poll, because I'm bored.

I use Gotta Play, which is basically a clone.

Hmm, I just googled Gotta Play, looks more like Netflix. GameTap is more like... Tivo?

Yea, within a couple days I get my 360 games. Handy here since game rentals are virtually non-existent in this town.

I'd have thought you got your games via that great rental service called bittorrent

No games through that acquisition, only music and movies.

Especially since you need modding to play burned games on the 360, right?

I was going to make a snide comment about why game companies are more worthy of your money than movie companies, but then I realized... they are. That's a pretty valid judgment.
Only issue is that when you rent something, virtually none of that profit goes to the content creator. I think. I don't know how the rental industry works.

Gametap is a good idea, but the game selection downright sucks (since most of them I can emulate for free). If they always had the latest and greatest PC games then maybe I'd give it a shot.

This is a sig of some nature.

Why would that make a difference? It's only slightly harder to pirate new games than it is to download old ones.
Biggest difference is file size, eh?

File size is the issue, of course. I'm quite sure that a lot of pirates out there would be willing to pay $10-some a month to play all the latest games, if it meant they no longer had to deal with 10GB downloads.

This is a sig of some nature.

Interesting, unexpected news:
Starting May 31, GameTap will be changing a few things around. Some highlights:

-Visitors to the website, without registering or paying a dime, will be able to play a bunch of games for free
-Registering without paying (you won't even need to give them payment information like you do now) will give you access to a few more free games and many features like online multiplayer
-Registering and paying lets you access all the games and features (same as subscribing now)
-A "Lite" version of the GameTap launcher will be released, which will presumably be less bulky and use fewer resources than the current GameTap launcher
-Tomb Raider Anniversary will be the first game to launch simultaneously on GameTap on the same day it's launched at retail (This is a good sign, suggesting that in the future it will become a service featuring the "latest and greatest" games)

I'm glad that when the new features launch, my current subscription will put me at the top level, but the free and Lite features seem cool as well. It'll certainly make it easier to get my friends to play multiplayer games online.

Bumping this thread, because the free stuff is up now. You should be able to play the free games regardless of what country you're in.

Among this week's free games, I recommend Bubble Bobble and Metal Slug.
