Wendy's to close original resturant
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070224/...endy_s_closing
--------------------- COLUMBUS, Ohio - Wendy's International Inc. said Friday that sagging sales will force it to close the restaurant where the nation's third-largest hamburger chain began in 1969. The iconic restaurant, filled with memorabilia and photographs of the late Wendy's founder, Dave Thomas, will close March 2. "This is a very difficult decision, but the truth is we kept it open for sentimental reasons much longer than we should have," company spokesman Denny Lynch said. Thomas, who died in 2002 of liver cancer, opened his first Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers on Nov. 15, 1969. He named the restaurant after his 8-year-old daughter, Melinda Lou, nicknamed Wendy. He later became a nationally known figure as a Wendy's pitchman in television commercials. But the original restaurant, just a few blocks from the Ohio Statehouse, is unable to generate sufficient sales at night or during weekends, when government buildings are closed, Lynch said. The restaurant has no drive-through window, has limited parking and soon would have required substantial building improvements, Lynch said. No sales figures were released. Thomas knew before he died that his first restaurant was struggling, Lynch said. "I guarantee he would support this decision," Lynch said. "He recognized that a company needs to be profitable." Employees will be offered jobs at other locations, Lynch said. The company hasn't decided whether it will hold a closing ceremony. "It's sad to see history disappear," said Mark Barbash, the city's director of development. Wendy's owns the building and the land, and city officials hope to meet with the company to discuss redevelopment ideas. Memorabilia at the restaurant, including the dress worn by Thomas' daughter when she posed for the restaurant's logo, will be moved to the company's corporate offices in Dublin, a Columbus suburb. Wendy's operates about 6,600 restaurants in the United States and abroad. ----------------------------------------------------------- Goddam Typos!

I remember back before BK started nuking the burger meat. BK was even good. Wendys is good eats, but I pass 3 BK's before I get to Wendys.
It's a bummer that Wendys has financial trouble. It's the only fast food burger that is consistently good. If you want to go for $6 burgers, Burgerville here is pretty decent, but it ought to be at double the price. Global Movies and TV God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to hide the bodies of people who pissed me off. |

The entire Wendy's chain locally is shuttered currently after the franchise owner went kaput. They were open one day and closed the next with no warning at all. No one knows if any will reopen either but it's all in the courts hands at the moment.

When we used to play Dublin in basketball in High School, one senior would always dress up as Dave Thomas.

I had one of those new mozzarella bacon burgers from the Wendy's on Broad St in Chattanooga earlier today. Was damn good.
Sorry to see the closure of the place where it all started... |

Yup finanical probs Wendys have. Why I said this, is cuz I use to work at Wendy's where I live. The Management was a crock, the boss would yell at you then have a heart attack SERIOUSLY!.
One day I went in for work, I ask where is (boss name) today, thought he worked. They said no, he is in the hospital, he had a heart attack. I said let me guess, from yelling? They said YUP, figures was my response back to theirs. Get this, one day the assistant (the one that did the hireing of new employees) said I think fast food is not for you, isn't Target hiring?. I told you I am not sure but I work here. If you didn't like me or what have you, you shouldn't have hired me. She shut up after that, she knew I was right and she was blowing it out of her hole. So I know all to much that Wendy's is having probs, doesn't take a genius when they started SELLING FUCKING BREAKFEST NOW. Good move dip shits, lets start selling breakfest, we can beat McDonals PFFFT what the fuck ever. Good, the main one is closing, more buizness for McDonalds lol IMHO
