start with reading the tutorial usually posted as stickys at the top of the 3 Shoutcast forums.
Everything has already been discussed and there is where you should seek help. After you have done all that then you can come in here and ask specific questions that you might not be to sure about. Good Luck |

It all starts with reading the tutorials . What your asking is sorta like if you went and bought a cabinet at IKEA and you have to put it together yourself. And you have the instructions right in front of you but instead of reading the instructions you are asking us how to build the cabinet.
Start with Winamp then get the DSP to be a DJ for winamp. That will allow you to DJ to a shoutcast server. Where you find or obtain the shoutcast server is a matter of two choices. 1. you either install a shoutcast server on your own home computer which with a typical DSL or Cable modem give you the ability to have a handful of listners at very low bitrates and poor sound quality 2. Lease a Server from one of the many established stream hosting companies out there. Ps. If you choose option 2 they will guide you in all need to know you can find many shoutcast stream host to choose from with varying plans and price ranges at: http://radiotoolbox.com |

It may be a bit of a suprise to read this, but the people that have posted above me have been a lot more friendly than what I'm used to seeing when someone asks a question like yours.
A lot of forum members will go insane and 'shout' in BOLDFACE CAPITAL LETTERS with profanity and other random bitching that you committed the ultimate sin by asking a question before reading the tutorials. Personally I hate that and I am glad the people that have replied so far have been much more helpful. Try reading through all of the links provided and see how things go. It'll take a rather long time but it's worth it. Pretty much everything you need is there if you can commit to taking the time to read it all. Don't forget to live before you die.

Yeah I will agree that the tutorials are only handy when you know exactly what your looking for.
I remember when I first starting learning about SC. I came here asked a few questions and was quickly directed to the tutorials here and there. But my problem was that I did not know the terminology to even grasp what it was I was looking at. The tutorials had so many topics and covered so many things I was overwhelemed . Did not know where to start. When it all boiled down all I really needed to know was 2 words And those words are : DNAS and DSP. But it took me like a week to figure that out. Then I got directed to a tutorial somewhere that was teaching me how to install the DNAS On my home computer and not a remote linux box. So I understand how confusing it is. But the 2 Core issues people need to know right off the bat before doing their search is they MUST have a DSP to upstream with and Shoutcast Host or DNAS to stream to. The rest is variable. Anyways good luck. |

well that is more server config orientated than shoutcast support.
but yes i agree the linux side is not very well documented, No one said it would be easy however the tutorials are aimed at the masses that have trouble configuring the windows version let alone anyone that wants to play with linux.
