cant stream better than 56k quality..

i checked all four pages logged in this message forum.. i assumed it'd be a common question.. but im baffled.

i suppsoe theres additional drivers i should download?

any help would be appreciated

Hey, you dont want to stream better than 56k. No one is going to listen except for people with faster connections. I have cable and i run at 24kbits/11hz and i use mp3 with VBR format. Almost every computer will be able to listen. I tested it on my mothers comp and she has a 333mhz with shitty AOL. And it worked beautifully and it sounded pretty good! The better your streaming format the harder it is to listen to it. I just figure this out a couple of days ago. I have had more people listen in the last couple of days then i ever had.

One more thing, do you have the server on your computer? if you do, do you see people connect and then disconnect a couple of seconds later? if so,now you know why!

To answer your question, you need to search the web for the Radium Codecs. Depending on your stream content and your Internet connection, you'll get plenty of listeners at higher bitrates.

But remember: you need plenty of bandwidth to stream 96k or 128k. Don't think you can pack 10 listeners in on a Cable connection.

Did you ever find a resolution to this? I've had this same problem, and I'd *love* to broadcast at a higher bitrate!

Well, if you MUST stream at high bitrates, take a look at Fraunhofer's website. They (and Thompson) are the owners of the MP3 encoding method and offer codecs (MP3 encoders) for higher bit rates. This is their site's URL: http://www.iis.fhg.de/

As stated above, higher bitrates mean lower number of listeners!

Anyway, it's not impossible to get 10 listeners on a cable connect. I've done it before but have gone to 8 just so i have some bandwidth left for me

Granted, my cable is 1.5mb/512k so it makes a difference but I had 10 listeners with very acceptable underruns, about 2-4 an hour. That's broadcasting at 56kpbs. I have a screenshot somewhere if you need proof, lol.

I'd recommend 5 listeners max for a general cable rule.
