Winamp Safe Mode

Like Firefox or IE7, they have an option on the Start Menu that if you execute them on safe mode they will start without any plugins (if your plugin make crash your program) and you can uninstall the plugin easily.

Winamp is known as a very unstable program. so this could help a lot

Although that statement is a little bit OTT, I haven't had Winamp crash out on me in YEARS, even when using some of the less than amazing beta builds, could it be because I don't use unstable , or indeed any, 3rd party plugins?

Could be!

hold down the left and right control keys as winamp is started and it'll prevent the gen plugins from being properly loaded (which are generally the main offenders when it comes to stability as the others tend to do nothing until winamp is playing). and really things are only unstable in extreme cases or with extra plugins (most commonly conflicting or not handling some api interaction correctly - the native plugins can have the same issues and some people experience them but on the whole most people don't)

yeah guys you're right, but for someone who's new using winamp and see the plugins site like a Candy Shop for a kid (i'm just sayin', not necessarily has to be me ) and someone who like to experiemnt with software... that feature would be nice

There is a quick workaround. Go to C:\users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Winamp and rename or delete winamp.ini

When you start Winamp again, you'll have to go through initial configuration, but you'll have a 'clean' startup.

interesting.

i'd like to see safe mode built in to the app though. have it automatically enter it after a crash on next start up, and then ask the user to approve or not each individual plugin.
