Play list is incorrect order

When adding multiple files by drag-n-drop or right clicking them in Windows Explorer, it seems to be impossible to get them lined up in correct order in the play list automatically. I've searched the help and forums for hours and found a lot of complaints on this.

Many forum participants blame Windows, saying Windows sends the files to Winamp in incorrect order. But that's a lame excuse. One ok solution would be if I put track number first in each file name with zero padding (i e numbered 01, 02 etc) and Winamp sorted incoming data alphabetically. But it won't.

I encourage Winamp developers to try out JetAudio (free player). It doesn't have this flaw. And if JetAudio can do it, then Winamp should be able to. Should at least stop you from blaming Windows.

I have already tried changing settings of "General Prefs|Titles" and tried adding track number to "Advanced title formatting" but doesn't help, and according to forum posts, this affects only browsing from within Winamp. Others say it's a problem with FAT32, not NTFS, but I have NTFS and WinXP Pro SP2. And I have NOT ticked "shuffle". Also, I can't be bothered with installing the "ActiveWinamp" plugin, which someone suggests: although probably a fine plugin, I think this feature is very basic, and I don't want to go into scripting just for that. And I don't find the proposed "solutions" sorting manually after playlist is loaded, or moving it through the media library first, to be good enough. I really don't. I also don't find sorting on ID tags is a good idea since they are often incorrect or incomplete - sorting alphabetically is fool proof. Or it should be..

I think this should be considered a bug as well as a major annoyance, so I think I'm in the right forum.
