Ive been through this site for an hour, read the FAQs did a search and pretty much got ticked off at the almost zer0 tech support offered by Winamp, including the shoutcast site. Here is my problem and as ive read 6 billion other ppl.
I -cannot- do voice overs using the mic! I have a full duplex soundcard ( manual says so) I have my MIC in Record properties selected, I can stream music and talk, everyone hears the music but im the only one who hears myself talk. The mic visualisation is not showing anything in Winamp. and -yes- I have enabled Advanced in DSP and I click on "Talk" but to no avail. I have noticed that i get this msg everytime i connect "Error Opening Sounddev!" .. so anyone, any winamp techs, support, whatever, what is causing this error??? how do we fix it??? nothing is mentioned about it.. seeing that so many ppl have voiceover probs and nothing official mentioned about them on the website is annoying if not downright stupid. Wake up WinAmp and help us! anyone has any info? Thnx in advance. |

I got the same $*%# problem. I get the sound dev. error as well. When I press talk I can hear my own voice but nobody else can. I have tried almost everything. I have a Turtle Beach II sound card and am using Winamp 2.62. What sound card are you using?
Please help us!! Thanks in advance. |

At least they can hear your music. As soon as I enable the DSP advance recording options nobody hears my music.

I got an MF1000 SoundCard .. btw, I used to get an error about "Cannot Open MMSystem32" when I tried to play 2 music files at the same time. I thought that might be the problem, so I changed my Plugin>Output from Wave-Out to Direct-Sound and i dont get the error again.. now I could also play 2 3 or even 4 music files at the same time ( sort of like a mix) unfortunatly that didnt solve the mic - voiceoever - problem. I do have an idea though.. Could we have a list of soundcards that -are- able to do voice overs? even a list of 2 or 4 would be great and Id go buy one just so the voice over works.

If the DSP gives you that message, it means it can't get a handle for your recording input. This is usually because:
1) your soundcard isn't actually full duplex 2) your drivers aren't actually full duplex 3) something else is already taking up the recording input. make sure you're not using directsound output in winamp (you should be using WaveOut), make sure your recording settings are set to record from the "Mixer Output" or whatever the loopback function is on your card (AND SPECIFICALLY NOT FROM THE MIC OR LINE IN), make sure that the playback mixer has the microphone and wave output unmuted, and then watch the playback mixer as you click the push to talk button. it should slide the mixer bars appropriately. remember to hold push to talk down. -t |

I've had just about enough.
My sound card is full duplex, I have unchecked the Linein and Mic boxes under recording options. I have also disabled volume control in the Directsound congif. and have enabled the WaveOut. I can see the mixer bars moving back and forth on the playback mixer. And yes I am pressing the talk buttom. Under the advanced DSP options, my listeners can't hear the music stream or my voice over. As soon as I shut off the advanced options my music can be heard. If anyone can figure out what is wrong with my winamp please let me know. I use the Turtle Beach Montego II. ~Struggling in Boston |

Make your settings like I show in this screencam demo:
http://www.shoutcast.com/downloads/advdemo.zip I apologize for your frustration, and it's frustrating for us that Microsoft can't make a standardized method of controlling your mixer settings via our software. Until then, it's up to you. |
