Vista native support
Hi guys,
I'm gonna propose something hard to do... It would be native support of Windows Vista. I believe achieving this would be hard without rewriting the whole code, and starting again from scratch... But as i heard of the powers of vista, an even greater winamp could come out of that, fully ising the Windows Presentation, Communication and Workflow Foundation. This way implementing full skinability, great graphics, full compatability, and i believe much more... Thank you for reading |

I was thinking the same. Who knows, with Vista's "power", maybe WinAmp's interface will become 3D

Goldrocker: do you want the code forked (the core "pre-vista" and the fork "vista" version) or winamp becoming "vista-only" and breaking nearly every single plugin? because most of what you said requires Microsoft .Net 3, which i'm not sure if it's going to released for the older windows versions

May be it could be a plus to release a version that just don't crash on Vista. Let's forget the 3D gui for now
![]() I was really surprised when I saw that 5.35 was still not running 'out-of the-box' with Vista. I'm pretty sure that I'll find a way to make it work for me on my box, but it's bad for average users who can't run it on their new machines. Most users will turn to others media players before they'll even think to check on a forum how they could solve something by themselves. |

At least one of the winamp developers uses vista on his machine. I'm fairly sure any serious issues would have been noticed.

What I can tell for sure is that on a fresh install of vista, Winamp crash as soon as the library get populated... Quote:
i really wish that the awesome guys at Winamp will soon provide us with a version that I and others vista users can run on our machine. I'd say that even if it was a Vista related issue, don't leave your devoted fans with no other solution than itune or ms media-player, it's just cruel. DrO, i'll check within the +52k threads on the forum as soon as I can listen to music

That's funny... I'm running Vista Ultimate x86, and Winamp works just fine, no hang-ups 'cept with auto-hide and always on top enabled on the docked toolbar, it goes behind the Vista sidebar when the sidebar's set to always on top.
And if you're skeptical (and I have no idea why anyone would be), here's screenshot proof, utilizing many parts of Winamp at one time. http://eternaleon.googlepages.com/winampisfine.jpg |

winamp works fine in vista x64 ultimate and x86 ultimate for me. 20000+ tracks of various formats in my media library. (mpc, ogg, mp3, m4a, aac, flac, ape, wav)(avi, mkv, ogm +++++) works fine. the only problems happen when you install the sonic engine(which can be unchecked in the installer) as it is 100% totally incompatible with x64 windows. |
