Getting DSP plug into recognize alternate codec?

So I installed a Frauhoffer codec (professional) versus the (advanced) one that comes with Netshow. It appears in the Control Panel>MultiMedia>Audio Codecs. I disabled the (advanced) one and moved it lower in the priority list than the (professional) one. When I attempt to configure the encoding level in the DSP, it throws that error that says it cannot find a valid codec. I poked around for some config option to choose which codec etc or even a text file to edit, but found nothing helpful. Any thoughts or hints?
