USB headset/mic - can't talk!

I am completely new here and new to all this (only about a week). I've been using SAM and have no trouble with it, but setting up Winamp I'm finding a bit more tricky.

To get to the problem - I have a USB microphone/headset. When I click Press to Talk I hear NOTHING. I have Soundcard chosen. But since my mic does not plug into the soundcard, I figure that is why I cannot talk.

I tried my regular headset, plugging it in back, and it works fine. How do I use a USB headset/mic with this?

Please spell it out for me one step at a time, b/c it's all rather complicated to me, and reading over the posts made no sense to me.

and as far as ive seen before you wont get it to work either.
