Listeners can't connect

I've used SHOUTcast before with no problems, but it seems to have randomly stopped working for me. I have followed http://www.sp0rky-n00b.co.uk/localcast.htm to a T, including port forwarding and everything else. When I open the DNAS and the Source, I get no errors, and it says it is connected and streaming, but when I forward the URL to my listener, they cannot connect.

Any ideas on what to do?

Check your router's port forward config -- it's posible that your DNAS PC's LAN IP has changed, thus making your port forward config invalid.

* Did you assign a static LAN IP to your DNAS box?

If that's not the case, make sure that you're not giving your link to a listener who only has Windows Media Player -- all WMPs are not created equal, and some can't do SHOUTcast at all.

** Post the link you gave your friend and we can test for you.

What's confusing about my IP is that places like whatismyip.com tell me one thing, and ipconfig in cmd tells me another. I am not using a proxy that I am aware of, and I don't know which one to use.

And yeah, my listener has Winamp.

The two URLs I've tried because of the screwy IPs are
http://76.182.168.200:8000/listen.pls
and
http://192.168.1.101:8000/listen.pls

One of these is probably just my router, I dunno. I'm not good with IPs.

http://76.182.168.200:8000/listen.pls -- This is the one you give to people. I'll use the station page link to test: http://76.182.168.200:8000/

I get no response however -- so, since you know how to do ipconfig -- check your Port Forward config, and make sure that it matches the "other" [192.168.something] LAN IP you gave.

FYI: the WhatsMyIP address is the only IP that remote listeners can use -- YOU, however, can use the LAN IP, 127.0.0.1 [aka. localhost], and possibly even the WAN/internet IP (but this is the worst chioce, even if it works).

Then, are you sure your DNAS is public ("make this station public" in the DSP), and that there are no errors in the DNAS console? The "Directory Checker" will not attempt to visit you and verify connectivity if you are not "public." (you will not see any error messages if you are not)

Then I guess you should check your router, and re-verify the WAN/Internet IP -- it can change.

Also make sure that any firewalls on the DNAS PC are not in play -- if any are running, they must be configured or none of this will work.

* remember, I can't see your PC (or anything you see), so treat me like a 5th grader .

Yep, it's public, and there are no errors showing. And my ISP assigns static IPs, so it has not changed in quite a long time (I checked just in case, and it's still exactly the same). The only firewall I had was Windows, and that's been off the whole time.

no response still.

Is your station listed in the directory? (Search for your station name).

Then try this -- http://djspinnercee.servehttp.com/cgi-fx/userdef -- to get your current internet IP.

Also check your router (it certainly knows your internet address) -- look for the WAN/internet IP -- it must not be a 192.168.x.x - type IP -- if it is, your modem is hiding you.

important: Do you see the visit from the SHOUTcast directory checker just after you connect your source/DSP to the DNAS? -- I only ask because sometimes, WinAMP needs to be restarted to apply or actually create a public station properly [when this is working, you'll see "[yp-add] yp.shoutcast.com added me" in the DNAS console/log].

The station isn't listed, apparently. And I checked my IP with that website, it's the same one as before, the 76.something. Apparently I get a nak error when it does the yp-add thing (I didn't see this before).

And I can't seem to find anything about a WAN in my router settings (router is a Linksys WRT150N).

You MUST see the directory checker... It's the ony way you know....

Check your WinAMP/DSP config with a fine-tooth comb -- make sure you examine all of the tabs -- YellowPages, Connection....

* You missed something elemental...

The fact that your DNAS is running and we can't see it means that something is wrong at the LAN/WAN level -- if your DNAS is running and your port forwarding is configured properly, it should be visible even if you have not connected the source/DSP.

So more is goin on here -- you have to find it.

Well, I've gone through that tutorial several times to check and see if I did everything there that had to do with configuration, and I did. But I guess I'll check again. :/

Connection has 127.0.0.1 for the address and 8000 for the port, and a password, Encoders are set... YellowPages is all filled out, server is public....

I wonder...

I'm using a wireless network, and the computer I'm currently on does not connect directly to the router. Also, in my Network Connections, I have an active 1394 Connection and Wireless Network Connection, but the Local Area Connection has an X on it and says a network cable is unplugged. Would this have any effect on this at all?

(Sorry for triple posting.)

Well I've looked all through my router configuration, and there is absolutely nothing about WAN.

Anyway, the error I get from the yp-add is:

[yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave error <nak>
[yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error <Cannot see your station/computer <IP: 76.182.168.200:8000> from the Internet, disable Internet Sharing/NAT/firewall/ISP cashe <connection timed out>.>

Yes, I've gone through that; the ports have been forwarded in my router configuration.

Besides, my router isn't listed on that website.

you needto forward to the local ip on your machine.

earlier you quoted. /192.168.1.101 <<< change the 0 to 101

(assuming that is the machine ip address)

Hello

I think I have a problem somewhat similar to this: Everything shows green and I get no error messages. I can connect to my stream using another program on the host computer (winamp streaming, vlc listening) and it works just fine. However, other people can't connect. I have forwarded the ports.

When I go to a browser and try going to my ip address : port, I get this message:

ICY 401 Service Unavailable icy-notice1:
SHOUTcast Distributed Network Audio Server/win32 v1.9.8
icy-notice2:The resource requested is currently unavailable

What could be the cause?

EDIT: Oh, I leave my stream running in case you want to check it.
