Shoutcast Server Connection Issues
Over the weekend, I've been attempting to setup a video stream via NSVCap which is streamed via a localhost Shoutcast server on the same machine. Thus, in a perfect world, I can connect to this PC from work and watch whatever I please.
I do not have any encoding issues, as I can watch the stream just fine locally. However, as soon as I try to connect to the stream from an IP other than my own, it will play for no more than 10-15 seconds and then not only disconnect me from the stream, but the Shoutcast server as well. See below for more details:<07/15/07@12:46:26> [SHOUTcast] DNAS/win32 v1.9.8 (Feb 28 2007) starting up... <07/15/07@12:46:26> [main] loaded config from C:\Program Files\SHOUTcast\sc_serv.ini <07/15/07@12:46:26> [main] initializing (usermax:10 portbase:8000)... <07/15/07@12:46:26> [main] No ban file found (sc_serv.ban) <07/15/07@12:46:26> [main] No rip file found (sc_serv.rip) <07/15/07@12:46:26> [main] opening source socket <07/15/07@12:46:26> [main] source thread starting <07/15/07@12:46:26> [main] opening client socket <07/15/07@12:46:26> [source] listening for connection on port 8001 <07/15/07@12:46:26> [main] Client Stream thread [0] starting <07/15/07@12:46:26> [main] client main thread starting <07/15/07@12:46:42> [source] connected from 127.0.0.1 <07/15/07@12:46:42> [source] icy-name:M4XTV ; icy-genre:Video <07/15/07@12:46:42> [source] icy-pub:0 ; icy-br:0 ; icy-url:http://www.shoutcast.com <07/15/07@12:46:42> [source] icy-irc:N/A ; icy-icq:N/A ; icy-aim:N/A <07/15/07@12:46:46> [dest: WATCHER's IP] starting stream (UID: 0)[L: 1]{A: Winamp NSV Player/5.12 (ultravox/2.0)}(P: 2) <07/15/07@12:46:58> [dest: WATCHER'S IP] connection closed (12 seconds) (UID: 0)[L: 0]{Bytes: 658731}(P: 2) NSVCap Headers: mypassword icy-metadata:1 icy-name:M4XTV icy-genre:Video icy-pub:0 icy-reset:1 Nothin special/elaborate... In addition, whenever someone actually does connect for that short period... the stream is not utilizing my full bandwidth capabilities. I can never seem to stream at more than 30k/sec even though I have 1Mbit upload. It doesn't matter if I encode the stream @ 200kbps or 800kbps, the bandwidth consumption is the same. I SHOULD be able to handle around a ~920kbps video stream for 1 user with no problem/buffering issues. I've also eliminated my router to see if that was perhaps throttling the connection, to no avail... same problem. Any ideas? I've been working on this all weekend and am at my wit's end. ![]() Thanks in advance, and I'll assist w/any information you may need/request! |

658731 bytes
12 seconds ---------- 658731 bytes = 8 x 658731 bits = 5.269.848 bits 5269848 / 12 = 439154 bps 439154 / 1024 = 429 kbps "not more than 30 k/sec"? :-) try setting bigger buffer on player, something should change, if the problem is in bandwith. If no, than problem is maybe elsewhere. |

OK, let me retract a bit. The speed DID increase a bit once I removed the router from 30k/sec to around 50-60k/sec. However, the user is stil disconnected in seconds regardless.

for example, my router has 384kbit upload (and 4mbit dl) internal hardware limit, but my provider's bandwith is 10mbit DL and 2mbit UP, so I can't use all "mbits" until buy new router.
Does the player say something when disonnecting? It seems that the player disconnect himself, but not server kicks him out. Also, when it is connection problems (for example when I unplug my ethernet cable prom PC's back), shoutcast server is still displaying that clients are connected for more time that 12sec. Please read my posts not as quaranteed true, but only as thoughts, as I am using my server for some weeks only, I'm new too... Try sending a file of a known size directly to the computer, that is 'listener' (or download in listener's pc from 'server'), If You will see the time and size, You will see average bandwith, and can check if the line is working good. |

Ya, I don't think it's a hardware problem due to the fact that I can encode and stream via Windows Media Encoder (ASF Format) and it will utilize the full ~120k/sec (1Mbit) upload bandwidth that I have at my disposal when I set it to the appropriate bitrate. However, when it is streamed to my localhost Shoutcast server and broadcasted... the stream speed seems to be throttled. Keep in mind, no re-buffering takes place for the end-user. The stream just stops and I can see that the user is disconnected via the logs I displayed above.

So an update on my situation. I have a friend who has a hosted Shoutcast server. I streamed to it, and had no problems whatsoever maxing out my 1Mbit bandwidth. So... the problems lies in the fact that I cannot max out my bandwidth via a localhost Shoutcast server. Noone else has ever experienced this?
