I'm looking at the idea of using SHOUTcast as an option to streaming live radio broadcasts of semi-pro hockey. I work at an ISP and I suspect we could host it right here. What are the implications? What are the downsides?

This should work quite well actually .. running in mono at low bit rate should pass on to many clients.

Here are some things i've noticed with 1.7 version for linux.
mem usage 0.3-0.4 per process 1 listener = 1 process Total processes = X listeners + 3 For talk/commentary broadcasts 16kbps/16khz should be great. Just make sure you have the bandwidth to spare ![]() Unfortunately windows' machines *SUCK* so getting any useful data from it is a joke. erm anyways.. the only downside to shoutcast is that there is no support for video .. its probably better that it doesn't Or this would turn into some sort of netmeeting freak show.
