32-bit and higher mp3 playback support

Hello,

Is there a plug-in or patch out there that enables winamp to playback in 32-bit or higher bits? (like foobar2000 can?)

Sincerely,
Rob

Mp3s are encoded in 16bit, there is no such thing as a 32-bit MP3. There is 24-bit decoding support (which is useless unless you have a 24-bit soundcard, and still any additions are questionable). There is no opetions for 32-bit. But besides for number-evvy can you give one good reason why this would be remotely useful?

I'm sorry, but you don't have such a sound card. The numerical value in the title of a certain series of soundcards may double as you go up the range, but it doesn't tell you the output accuracy of the sound cards - it doesn't even claim to. The best digital to analogue converters are 24-bits. Some very good ones (e.g. this one from dCS) may be linear down to the equivalent level of the 27th bit, but this is still using a 24-bit input signal and 24-bit converters. 99.9% of people still have 16-bit sound cards.

there is an option in foobar2000 to play files in 32-bit post-processing / output format

go to preferences > output

in foobar2000

select 32-bit

play a file..

dunno it sounds a bit different to me
