Getting access to popup menus

I'm working on a ML plugin, and I'm stumped on something.

When you press the "Misc" button in the Playlist Editor, you get a popup menu... how can I insert my own menu item into that?

I'd also like to add a button to the row of buttons that appear at the bottom of the ML when you select "Local Media".

I mean, I *could* hook the parent window in each case, I suppose. I just wonder if there's a better way before I go down that path...
