Linux is worthy of a port of Winamp 5

Linux has come along way and has now surpassed windows in eye candy and functions. I think it is worthy of a long overdue port of Winamp 5. Other media players do not even fair to Winamp. Virtulization is to buggy. It is unfair not to port a version of Winamp to Linux at least once in a blue moon.

Unfair!?!

If you're trying to be fair then Nullsoft should first make a port for MacOS and then for the Win9x croud. Then they can make one for the gigs.

ClassicPro© v2.01 : This plugin allows you to use cPro skins in Winamp. ClassicPro skins are all SUI skins and loads very quickly. ClassicPro skins is even easier to skin than Winamp Classic skins. A new layout have been added since version 2.

I wouldn't expect MacOS users to be smart enough to use Winamp. So, in staying inline with the topic of the thread, MacOs should be the last OS for Winamp 5 to be ported to.

Winamp is deeply reliant on Windows APIs - porting it isn't trivial, so it's not going to happen. Even if it was ported, none of the plugins would work unless ported themselves.

i'm sure a large donation would be enough to get winamp ported.

i'm also sure that one of the only things holding many people back from using linux is winamp.

that is very true. pretty much the ONLY thing that keeps me using Windows. and let me tell you, aside from linux truely being a better os i hate microsoft just for being the greedy corp. it is. i've had bad experiences with mircosoft and really wish i never had to use their product. i don't know why nullsoft feels so loyal to them.

in the linux community winamp is very much hated. there is no exaggeration on this. on linux forums and chat channels i always get flammed if i tell them my favorite player is winamp. i can't help but wonder if the real reason why they are like that is because of the neglect for linux by nullsoft.

are you referring to the reason why the linux community hates winamp? if so, that is not the reason at all. virtualbox-bin is closed source but many use it no one has spoken against it(flame wise). i still think it is because of nullsoft's neglect to the linux community.

its not deglect, we tried, users winged. the project got canned.

thousands of complaints about winamp3 being slow and bloated got it canned. now winamp5 is even more bloated but the portability is now gone.

winamp3 was being ported to linux/macos.

It's just too bad that Linux doesn't have any media players:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categor..._media_players

Seriously, this has been asked ad infinitum, and unless someone can write a check for a few hundred thousand, I doubt it would ever happen.

And, as Rocker said, they tried, and everyone whined.

feel free to take up coding of wasabi player anyone. its basically the source code for winamp3 that was allowed to the public.

or use something like songbird on linux.(made primarily by ex nullsoft developers)

Yep, I was going to suggest that. I just got songbird 0.6 last week, and it looks pretty sweet. Not perfect, but still does a good job.
