*IMPORTANT* Winamp isn't playing my purchased Itunes music, why?

Winamp does not seem to be playing the music that I have purchased from Itunes, when I double click on one of these song files, winamp changes the name to a 4 letter series such as WKQR, and/or says that the file's length is 0:00 minutes long.

Although it does know that the file is several megabytes big...

Why is this happining?

Because you "purchased' DRM Restricted files that play only in iTunes. And Apple doesn't play well with others. There is a plugin for tehse M4P files:

Though it does require QuickTime to be installed.

well ty but that kind of makes me sick

also i can't authorize my files on itunes now that i've uninstalled it unless i have the neweset version of itunes but guess what I don't have windows XP to run it................................

really it's rather disgusting that they prevent me from using the files i've already paid them for by making me spend MORE money... seems like extortion.\

edit=

I just realized that the plugin you suggested mentions that itunes has to have the files authorized... well again I can't seem to authorize my files until I upgrade itunes...

Well...

I'm taking the issue up with itunes

I sent them a rather mean and derogatory email directed at thier support team that MAY have had a few bad words in it I don't remember, hopefully they will reply anyway.

if not i'll call them up...

honestly i'm this close to saying if they wanna RIP me off what's to stop me from getting a pirated version of XP so I CAN upgrade itunes....

If you're using Winamp, what's preventing you from using iTunes? Are you on something before XP? iTunes is compatible with XP SP2/SP3 and Vista. Hell there's even a special version for Vista 64.

For your music, I would look into a program called doubleTwist. You need a free account with them and iTunes installed (cause the computer has to be authorized to play the content), but you can just take your music to a Windows computer with iTunes, let doubleTwist convert the music there and bring it back to your own PC. No more DRM.

itunes sucks thats why he doesn't want to use it.

itunes store especially sucks ass.

i don't think apple with care too much if your pirating their competitions software.

download the files(from other sources without drm infections)
or buy the cd's when they come out(they sound better anyway)

I was suggesting that just so he can convert his songs and be done with it. Do you honestly think I'd be here if I was a mindless iTunes fan?

I managed to get an itunes version

For win2k (which is my OS) that allowed me to Authorize my computer, (prior versions to 7.2 or w/e I have did not)

However, because it was a new version of itunes, upon syncing my Ipod with Itunes, itunes deleted about 500 songs or so that I can not get back, because I had originally put them on my ipod from a harddrive that had gone bad.

Yadda yadda it's hard to imagine if you don't actually use itunes, anyhoo -.- I have my DRM restricted files playing fine now, unfortunatly, i'm short 500 songs I can't even remember. Bye bye alice in chains and who knows what else.
