Am sorry if am posting this if some one posted it allready i looked trough out the forum i couldn't find it. Basiclly i created a cast with shotucast.com trough winamp player and shotucast DNAS (GUI) and am using por 8040 and my own internet ip adress i changed to get 1000 listeners i hope to ge big.

My question is this all fre thee shoutcast tools and will i get charged extra for my internet over this before i step up to go big.

My second question is what speed o i need. Now i got dell desktop PC with 3.6 Ghz CPU with 4gig of ram internal sata hardrive 80 gig and extarnal usb 500 gig hardrive where i will keep all my files & music.



Also my internet speed is
6016 Kbps (downstream)
768 Kbps (upstream)

My last 3rd question is when am running winamp media player and SHOUTCAST DNAS trough my ip is that like my own server. since i didn't bought none servers online or anything i just follwed the steps in the DNAS setup. PLEASE HELP

please let me know if that speed of my pc and internet is good. and what speed with that type of pc and connection should i setup my encoder to run.
Please help am sterter at this basiclly my radio is working fine trough out the world over internet. I just wan't some advice's and my answers to my questions. Thank You

There is no such thing as free bandwidth, and there is no way in hell you are getting 1000 listeners with your connection. Really, you can only support 5 listeners at 128kbps. 31 at 24kbps. And if you get charged for using too much bandwidth is a question to ask your ISP, nothing we can answer.

Its always worth remembering that the rule of thumb is upstream / bitrate = max users

don't worry about your pc specs they are ample for sourcing a server located somewhere else as sawg said above.

thank you very much guys but is the rest off stuff free so basiclly i would have to contact my ISP provider and ask them to get more bandwith or should i tell them how much bandwith would i need to ro run 500 listeners how many can i run if i get this speed can i run more listeners?

They wont supply it you need to look for a stream host if you want to host more listeners.

Home Connection ----->> Stream Host ----->> Listeners

even with a 3.5 Mb upstream you wont be looking at 500 listeners, maybe ~ 25 @ 128k

also don't look at 500 listeners as the chances are you are new station and will not hit the 500 slot for quite some time.

start small and grow into your station.

thanks alot for your help nick@ss but would i get charged anything extra now with this connection that i got 5mps and 758 upload i got it 128 k per sec and yesterday i had 20 listeners do you think my att provider will charge me i got att dsl hispeed elite service internet please let me know and what did u meant about home connection and that

i contacted att they said i would get 20GB and 150GB the most a month for my bandwith now how many listeneres can that hold? on 128 kbps,44khz

First, all ISPs in the US are seriously considering charging their high end customers in the very near future. Running a SHOUTcast server off your home line would most definitely put you in their high end user category (last I remember, if you pushed out over either 1 or 5 gigs a month, they were going to bill you for the additional bandwidth). Remember, these are just talks as of now, but it does sound like something that is going to happen here.

Secondly, it is against the terms of service to run a server on any ISPs home line in the US. However, no one really pays attention to that, so don't be too worried about that one. I'm just saying, technically that is a rule and they can refuse to ever provide you with service again if they so choose.

ATT's elite service caps at 1 meg upstream (if I remember correctly), which means you can only host 8 people at 128k.

Finally, that Comcast speedboost you got really plays with your results --- and in a bad and false way. You don't really have a 3.5 meg upload, sure you do with speedboost, but that speedboost is only going to stick around for something like the first fifteen min. After that it is going to go away on you and you are going to be left with something different.

fc*uk thank you very much for helping me out so should i stay with att elite service because i was thinking transfering to cox same as comcast where i would get 3.5 mb per second but is there is any of them that are running server on their ISPS home line that you know of and having shout cast trough there> so basiclly on atts i can only host 8 ppl? is there is any way i can upgrade how can i find how much bandwith i use

i got specfications from cox internet provider i would like to know exacly how many listeners could i have with this type of internet

1. Maximum downstream speed 1 10 - 20 megabits per second
2. Maximum upstream speed 1 1 - 2 megabits per second
3. Maximum monthly consumption cap 60 gigabytes downstream; 15 gigabytes upstream
4. Personal WebSpace account size 10 megabytes of disk space per User ID
5. Personal WebSpace traffic 300 megabytes of traffic per month (for visitors viewing your pages)

2Mbps @ 128k will give you ~ 16 listeners.

10 listeners @ 128k for one month based on being at full for 8 hours a day would work out to be 138 Gb

Downstream means nothing in terms of use of shoutcast

Any domestic isp will not give you enough capacity to host decent streams from home.

On the other side of the coin, ATT does not have the limitations that Cox/Comcast puts on users --- yet.

You could stream to a host all you wanted with ATT and not have to worry about getting charged for going over your bandwidth.

You can always use a more compressed format like AAC+v2 at 32k. Just about four streams for the price of one.
