Winamp cant handle my media library

It seems as of recent winamp just cant seem to handle my media collection of TV shows. I've got somewhere in the range of 1000-2000 episodes of different shows, all in .avi format (with varying codecs and bitrates) and for the past year i've had more or less my own TV station by having winamp manage my library and shuffle through my files. Recently my winamp would play 2 or 3 episodes, then crash so i reinstalled, but still no luck. So i uninstalled, reinstalled and now whenever i even try to add even just 1 folder with only a season's worth of episodes it crashes.
