From what I've read there are more people who think they're similar. So I was assuming Jameson 12 is simply Redbreast with a bit of grain whiskey but I guess they also use more sherry barrels for it, unless the milder blend alone causes the sherry to stick out more.
But I can't do a direct comparison right now so this is all guesswork. Fuck this place. |

Last night I was drinking %8 bourbon & cokes called 'diesel'. This morning it feels like I was drinking diesel. And by this morning I mean it's noon.

Never had anything from that brewery before - looks promising. I'd like to try some if I ever find it.

I wasn't that much into whisky during the summer but since it got colder (and started raining for two months straight) I finished a bunch of bottles I had open for (on average) about a year and got some replacements.
Being (apart from the Redbreast and Laphroaig QC): Talisker 10 (think a nice balanced single malt with some smoke, good, now add a handful of black pepper), Old Pulteney 12 (dry with the same almond/macadamia flavour as Clynelish but overall lighter, great value for the money), Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban (finished in port casks, sweet* and fruity, fairly strong aroma but still a bit boring) and Caol Ila 12 (oily, somewhat similar to Lagavulin 16 except slightly lighter and without the sherry influence). *at least compared to the others Fuck this place. |

^every last one of those has quite a high price over here, if I'm lucky enough to find them. I'd like to give a couple of them a try.
I got home from work at 3 p.m. (Today - Wednesday) instead of the usual much later time and won't have to be at work until 7 a.m. Monday. Tonight I was busy with family obligations, but now I'm home. I'm too tired to do serious tasting, so I poured something that always makes me happy - Makers Mark on the rocks. It gives a nice little hit when the drink has just been poured and the sip is big and the ice isn't melted yet (perhaps not as much as bourbons with rye though). Then, the ice melts over time to make things nice and easy. That part of the night is coming to a close, so I've just begun pouring a Great Lakes Brewing Company Oktoberfest (http://www.greatlakesbrewing.com/bee...er_id=00000056). I have the in-law parents and grandmother in town from a 2-day drive away, and they were nice enough to deliver this to me, as it isn't available here. Don't forget to live before you die.

However, this is insanely cheap. (No idea about shipping cost to Middlanowhere, but maybe some New York residents are interested too.) Fuck this place. |

Holy shit. I might actually pick it up. I have both family and friends in Jersey City (very close to that store) that owe me some favors. Shipping is a legal issue because of state laws, but that won't be too much of an obstacle since I'll be seeing all of them over the holiday break - they can bring it themselves. It's not often that I am willing to buy something over 12 years old in a bottle, but this might be worth a good try. It might be a good gift for my dad if I'm feeling generous. He always shares what I buy for him whether it be a case of good beer or a set of tools, and he makes fun of me for my gift selections knowing that I buy them so that I can borrow or help him consume them.

My parents bought some of this stuff when they were in town visiting, and then didn't bother to bring it back with them when they left town. It's very affordable (much less expensive than more commonly known bourbons) and still very good quality stuff. I made the mistake of putting the ice in afterwards, making the glass show splash marks, which are bad for a good clean-looking photo-shoot.
Tonight is Monday night and not a work night - got the day off tomorrow because of a special WV gubernatorial election. I don't normally drink during the school year, but I happened to notice this still sitting on the bar, and, well, I haven't had any form of liquor in about a year, so I figured I'd give it a try. If you like bourbon, give this a try; you'll notice that you can spend a lot less money and still get a damn good drink. Want to impress/surprise/shock people? Pour it into a decanter and ask people what they think it is, including asking what they think a bottle of it costs. It's a good way to show whiskey snobs that it's the palate, not the ego, that determines what good stuff is.

some stuff called "sun drop" it's a quite obvious mountain dew ripoff.
oddly enough, i can't tell much of a noticable difference but.... i think i may be dangerously close to preferring it. also strange, mountain dew is possibly quite a lot better at room temperature than cold. then again, could be the throwback mountain dew just don't chill quite as well as typically when i get MD instead of sun drop i go for the throwback actual sugar type typically and let me tell you, it's definitely different even within the same brand and... i don't know, i think something about it just doesn't taste right served cold as ice. Since my last move, I haven't had tap water that tastes good enough to enjoy drinking, so I have to send a huge jug with a co-worker who lives where there's a better supply. If you have good water right out of the tap, enjoy; not everyone has that luxury.
The water I have is still ok for showering, cleaning, and everything else, and it probably wouldn't hurt me, but it tastes bad. Everywhere I've lived in the past has been good for drinking water until now.

I still boil my water before drinking, though technically the tap water here is potable.

cran-grape juice
I've been hooked on this stuff for years. I've never had much of a sweet tooth, but for some reason I have always liked this stuff. Plus, anything with cranberry is said to prevent urinary tract infections, not that I have had one yet. Don't forget to live before you die.

i've been on a hell of a ginger ale kick lately, seagram's is tolerable but mediocre, schweppes lacks much of a satisfying kick and seems to go flat the fastest, canada dry it is.

I rather prefer Canada Dry to the competition too. I like the dry part - as you describe the kick. Not too sweet. My wife prefers Schweppes because it's sweeter.

Clos Du Bois
Shiraz 2004 9 years old at a local Rite Aid drug store. It has probably been on that shelf for 8 of those years, sitting upright. But, I took a risk, although not much of one because it was very inexpensive, and bought it. It's a bit thin with a decent and inoffensive taste; actually a bit better than a normal $13 bottle of Shiraz. I don't have the vocabulary or experience with wine to give it a proper review, but I will say it was a good buy and a good drink. The age didn't really harm it, and probably helped a small amount, since the acidity and vinegar notes in the taste that one would find in younger cheap wines seem to have disappeared. There is nothing elegant about this stuff; it's not a standout, but it lacks all the bad and has a little good.
