live stream synchronization issue
I setup Winamp with Shoutcast server running on a computer. However, when it plays a MP3 file via Winamp, and streams it out with Shoutcast Source, the audio I hear on a different machine (listen.pls) does not match what is being played on the server's Winamp. They are the same mp3 file, but they just not synchronized to each other. I understand that there are issue with prebuffering and latency, but the offset is a lot more than just a few seconds. I was able to synchronized once or twice, but I can't seem to repeat it. Any hint about how to do it right, or I just have to live with this?

A offset > 10 seconds at 128kbps is normal.
The higher the bitrate, the higher the offset. greets, Michael TechnoBase.FM | HouseTime.FM | HardBase.FM | TranceBase.FM | CoreTime.FM | We aRe oNe |

Is there anything I can do to make it near-real time? 10 second delay is not acceptable, since I want to use the live stream to broadcast time of day, etc.

You can try to use the lowest MP3 or AAC+ encoder to reduce the offset to a couple of seconds (3-4).
But this causes a very bad sound quality! I`ve never seen a (free) realtime streaming media server. Most of them have at least a three seconds offset (with a bad quality). greets, Michael TechnoBase.FM | HouseTime.FM | HardBase.FM | TranceBase.FM | CoreTime.FM | We aRe oNe |
