Did you WHOIS the IP? probably a forge anyway.
I would try to ban the IP in your server admin panel anyways.
Just to check....

Type your IP:port in the browser to access the DNAS

Look at the squared box on this and click it.

Where it prompts you here, type "admin" as the name, and type the password you use to stream for the DSP as the password.

from their you will see a function to ban IP's

In your log file what is the useragent ?

example :
starting stream (UID: 122148)[L: 2]{A: WinampMPEG/5.32}(P: 1)

I'm not here right now - leave a msg after the beep...

There are typically two causes for this anomoly. These could be streamrippers - people connecting 2 clients, one to listen and one to record. If slots are limited, you may want to look into banning these IPs.

However another very likely option is that many people behind the same firewall are tuned in. This often occurs when many people at the same university or corporation discover your station and spread the word. While it might not help your listener stats as far as unique listeners are concerned, this scenerio does in fact have multiple legitimate listeners behind the same firewall.

I would do a reverse lookup or traceroute on the duplicate IP addresses to see where they are coming from and make a decision based on that. A better solution for stopping rippers is to turn off title streaming, use a tool to insert periodic title updates during songs, or use a crossfading plugin that prevents rippers from being able to get clean recordings of songs.

Be carefull over ~250 entries in the ban list and it can crash shoutcast

random titling can help sort this out and stopping stream titles will also work,

also putting lots of idents in your stream so they advertise your station will help.

This mght be usefull aswell.

Be Careful !

Stopping stream title updates could cause numerous long term connections from the official shoutcast ultravox metapuller.

This is caused by users tunning in with the official flash based players via the yp.

If you are experiencing multiple/non unique listeners it
could be the metapuller taking up the slots.
This is why i asked for the useragent above,as knowing that
could eliminate the metapuller as the problem you encounter.
