I DJ with winamp, over 10 years now...and....

I have used winamp as my preferred computer DJ system since I started using computer DJing.

In 1997/8 I got a laptop, some external scsi drives, an external roland sound card and winamp and was DJing at clubs with it.

I have tried winamp crossfading to make song to song tranistions better but always had very buggy issues with the crossfaders.

I do not do mixing.

My wishlist for winamp as someone who has used it for more than 10 years DJing.....(yes, I bought it back then.)

I stack the player on top of the playlist and extend the playlist downward. This sets up a nice vertical system on the side of the screen and allows me to open explorer to get music and textpad++ to view desired lists (...ok, I am a strip club dj and the lists are the songs each girl likes)

All is perfect in this except the playlist section. When I get enough songs to fill the playlist dragging and dropping becomes too hard. I usually just delete all in the list except the one playing and then start refilling it.

MY WISH- that someone would mod the playlist box so there can be an option to always leave 5 or 6 song spots of space for drag/dropping.
So when you fill up the playlist, it auto scrolls up and leaves room to drag drop under the previous songs.

It is the only real issue I have with winamp as I can never keep a working list of songs I played that day....causing some repeats.

The only other thing would be a simple crossfader that does not mess up where the tracker is and the timer of the song...all the crossfaders seem to always bug out on me.

Lastly, a nice mod would be a one time file that could play while crossfading. Instead of opening a second winamp, it would be nice when I hit 'next' that a separate sound file plays over the cross fade from one to the next. In my example it would be a small applause file.

In a working example, a song would end or I would hit next....as the song fades out and the next one is fading in, a 5 second (shorter or longer) applause sound file would kinda fade in and fade out. Applause inbetween tracks.

thats my wish list..

Oh, one final thing..

Now that all the DJs are using computers and they get all their fancy DJ programs that are all buggy and what not...they see my system and say 'what the heck is that?'

I would love a skin that says 'old school' or 'winamp is still better' or some other in your face to these new school DJs...

Yea all! and how are you? I'm trying to work with DVD with background music added, and using windows movie have helped some but playing the music all the way to end is not successful at times, just for at the start before the video begins, but not with movie at all.

I need help, a.s.a.p ok?

Didn't you already start a post of your own about this subject? The answer is there. Do not invade other threads to crosspost. I call people who do that a jackass.

Hay! Wildrose-Wally, my intention was not to crosspost, but I could not find that post so I try posting it again. But you! for what reason said what you did I dont know. I was just trying to find an answer, but I did not realize as you said above:

Hello winampDJ,

I am using winamp since years too. Only one function I am missing: preview a song from the library through a second sound device. Maybe I can help you:

Did you test [right mouse button] and [enqueue to playlist]?

I tested about 30 different programs for me. I found two with bugs and missing features. Ultramixer and audomate. Both can play jingles while crossfading two songs. But you have to press a button.

Winamp, Audomate 3.4(135), Ultramixer or E-Mix

I will check out the two mixers.

As for the right click enqueue it is just not conducive in my setting. I am really a drag dropper..

And engueue at end does not help as it is invisible when added....I really would like that room to add songs and not have to play with scrolling or accidently moving the songs around or playing the wrong things.

Doing it one way for 35 songs and then a different way that is a bit touchy for another 130 songs is just not great. So I just delete the list and start over.

Other than that, have been fine with it.

Now and then the mouse can no longer select anything on the screen (like a window or a file or an application) but can move around. To get around this I just right click in winamp and the mouse is able to select again. Weird bug. But an old version too...lol

imo, the best solution for your applause need is a standalone flash soundboard. just google "flash sound boards" and you can see examples of them. i don't think this feature is a priority for winamp, but as a radio station DJ i'd like to see it and some other features, such as beat matching during cross fading and EOM points for starting the next event.

BUG #1 = Winamp skips short tracks

Wish #2 = Add TCMP/Compilation editing
