won't play http://radio.bigbeats.ru:9054/
Hello,
I've installed winamp on my new laptop (has got VISTA on it) but it won't play the internetradio I always listen to: http://radio.bigbeats.ru:9054/ first winamp doesn't open from itself (although I've associated it with .pls in the control panel - and then it says: [connecting to host] http://radio.bigbeats.ru:9054/ but that never happens, it just stops there, I can wait for hours and it keeps telling me that it is connecting, and nothing happens. I can play any other type of music with it and I've never had any problem listening with winamp to that radio from my old PC. Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong? Thank you! |

Well, the server is still up and running ...
If winamp does not open when you click on a .pls link from your web browser, then you have to set winamp as the helper application to handle in .pls file. This is set from within the web browser; it is not a windows control panel option. As far as a connection not being made, I can only guess that maybe the player you are using can not handle streaming audio. Or, you could ignore all of that and simply tell me if clicking this link resolves your issues fully: http://radio.bigbeats.ru:9054/listen.pls Sorry, hard to tell exactly where your problem lies with the information you have given. |

still not working - what else can I do?
Thanks for your reply.
No, clicking the link you provided does not help, what happens is exactly the same as before. what other information would you need to give me more advice? I am using winamp 5.56 and internet explorer 8, when I open the website it says SHOUTcast D.N.A.S. Status, fast internet connection is working perfectly, I've tried 128 and 64 kbit, I can play other music with winamp, I've got windows VISTA on my laptop... any other info that would be helpful? Best, Landmagd |

one more thing
I forgot to mention that I am accessing the internet via the university connection (VPN) - maybe this causes the problem? I set up the internet settings so I can use the internet (not only intranet) - but maybe I have to do something more to connect to an internet radio?!
Thanks for your answer! (really sorry, I accidentally posted this as a new thread 1 minute ago, sorry I'm a fresher here

It is possible that this does have something to do with the VPN you are using. I believe it is possible to block traffic through a vpn so it does not get over used.
From what you have described, everything should work for you. Clearly, things are not working, which made me wonder if something was not quite right. When you listened to the stream before on the old computer, were you still connecting through the same vpn? |

VPN
no, at home with the old computer I've got a different internet connection. but here on campus I've got a new laptop now and would like to listen to this radio while I'm working. I've just tried with other internet radios: it doesn't play any. I can play last.fm but I think this is because I don't need winamp for that. oh no...
what could I do about the VPN? |

The configuration of the vpn is going to be leargely out of your control, and this does sound like a vpn issue.
About the only thing you can do is take it up with your university's IT department. |
