Winamp 5.5.8 Rate Items Issue

I have Winamp 5.58 (5.5.8.2975) - clean install
No additional Language pack
The bug exists with NO 3rd-party plugins installed
Winamp Classic skin

Hi all!
With the 5.58 version I have the following problem not present in the v5.572.

In the Playlist Editor, the "Rate Items" sub menu of the song context menu (right click) doesn't show the decreasing list of asterisks (stars) like this

****
***
**
*
No rating

but a decreasing list of squares

(see attached image)

I have the same issue with the ML song context menu.

Can i quick fix that?

Which OS are you using and what is the language of your operating system?

The standard asterisks were replaced by real stars:



What you are seeing is a Unicode fail for whatever reason. No 3rd party plugins are installed?

I've copied the thread over to the internal Bug Tracker, hopefully someone can look into it and verify that it's no real bug.

OS: WinXp Pro Sp3
OS Language: English
OS Regional and Language Option
Standard and formats: English (United States)
Text Services and Input languages - Details: English (United States) - US
Language for non-Unicode programs: English (United States)

I confirm you no 3rd-party plugins are used to test this issue.
I also tried to use Winamp without plugin at all (renamed the plugin directory before starting it) but the issue remains.
I tried also on another machine (same settings as above) and the issue is still present.

Issue reproduced,

Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 3 | Local - US English | Tahoma as menu font
Tested on clean install of Winamp 5.58 | Language Pack - Winamp Default / English (US)

Try changing the menu font in Windows...

1. Right click on the desktop > select Properties
2. Appearance tab > Advanced button
3. from the Item drop-down box select Menu
4. from the Font drop-down box select Arial Unicode MS or another Unicode font
5. OK button > Apply Button > OK button

Doh! Thanks for the workaround JM.

But it shouldn't be needed to use a workaround. I'll copy your posting to the BT thread as well and hope you are fine with it.

I saw something similar in the internal beta builds too, but it's working for me now without any workaround. So I guess best would be, if one of the devs take a look at it.

I tried your suggestion (changed the menu fonts to Arial Unicode MS) and it fixed the problem also for me. Thanks for the workaround.
Note: Another unicode font (Lucida Sans Unicode) didn't work.

is this a XP only issue? i don't seem to see it on win7.

Should give you the answer. It's a XP/2k font issue. Maybe they should go back to asterisks on these systems
