CD burn fails with wav file

I followed the Winamp tutorial on how to burn CD. I navigated to a file on my hard drive, which is a wav file. When I click on Burn, absolutely nothing happens--no error message. Just nothing.

Perhaps I missed something simple. Can anyone help?

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 with a 1.5 GHz Pentium M processor, 2 GB RAM, Win XP/Pro SP 3, Winamp v. 5.57.

I have added no themes or add-ons to those that came with the original download. I noticed (if this is even relevant), that there is an input plug-in called Nullsoft Waveform Decoder v3.17 and an output plug-in called Nullsoft WaveOut Output v2.12(d)

Can Winamp burn a wav file to a CD? If so, does the format remain wav or is it converted to Audio CD (cda) format?

I tried several different searches of this forum without success.
