Album Art

I think it is very bad. In most cases covers are low resolution and they aren't original but modified covers. For example cover for 'The Doors' album, there isn't original cover, just remastered version.

From where Winamp downloads covers anyway?
So is there any way to set in Winamp to search Wikipedia or some other site for Album Art?

If it is not, maybe that is something that need to be done in next release.

it's something to do with Gracenote for the lookups and due to licensing there's not going to be a native alternative. also album art downloads are always hit and miss from what i've seen in any program as you're depending on other people uploading proper copies to the services.

So it can't be connected to Wikipedia? Or to put direct link to cover which you want to be shown for chosen album?

there's nothing stopping you doing it via an external app/plug-in but Winamp cannot provide an alternative such as using wikipedia due to the licensing already in place with the service being used (i believe it's an exclusive usage agreement just like how freedb couldn't be used for cddb lookups a few years back).

however i'm not aware of any Winamp plug-ins which will allow you to achieve what you're wanting. i'd expect there are some apps but as i don't generally use albumart (other than what comes in some podcasts i listen too and with some rsn game audio sets) i'm not able to really suggest any alternative programs, etc to use.

i am almost positive that the art comes from AMG, not gracenote. maybe gracenote contracts with AMG for art, or maybe Gracenote doesn't do art, or maybe winamp doesn't use gracenote art if gracenote does do art.

but many times i have seen that the AMG art is an exact match, like not just the cover, but the scan of the cover, like if it was over exposed or an alternate or whatever.

winamp sux at getting art. its a big weakness, and forget it for comps. WMP does art much better, and i think also uses AMG.

I scan my own in from the CDs I have; otherwise, I just go to AMG or Amazon and find a suitable one and manually save it as folder.jpg in the particular directory for the album.
